How are you doing with finding Tutas info? My name is Mike Thompson and my Great Grandfather left Prussia before/during some revolution as far as I can remember the story. My great grandmother commited suicide in the US, Pound, WI when she was around 40 years old.
You can e-mail me direct at miket@chartermi.net.
Good luck looking?

Amanda and Carolyn, I have heard of the Paul Tutas you referred to. He was the son of Frank Tutas and his wife Catherine ("Katie") Schilaski. Frank was supposedly the son of Albert and Frances Tutas (of what was then Russian Poland). Catherine was born in 1880 (supposedly in Hamilton); died in 1914 in Hamilton, Ohio; and is buried in St. Stephen's Cemetery. Frank Tutas reportedly immigrated in 1891; married Catherine in 1895; died in Milwaukee in 1922; and is buried in St. Adalbert's Cemetery. My grandfather was named Frank Xavier Tutas and was the nephew of your Frank Tutas. My grandfather married Catherine's sister, Mary Schilaski.

Did not realize my sister Carolyn sent this to me. Paul had 13 brothers and sisters and were separated when mother died. Is this familar story? It sounds like the mother Catherine died at 34?

Supposedly they lost track of several brothers and sisters.
What more do you know.

Amanda,
My info is that Frank & Catherine Tutas had 10 or 11 children as follows: 1 Albert, 2 Elizabeth Brozowski, 3 Stephen (died young), 4 Michael, 5 John, 6 Joseph (died young), 7 Anthony, 8 Bernard (died young), 9 Paul, 10 possible child (died young), 11 Josephine St. Peter.  Frank moved to Wisconsin with some of the children after Catherine died in Hamilton, Ohio. For your information, I live in Butler County, Ohio, so I have been able to do a little family research in local records. --- Ron Tutas

R- and all Tutas'

My name is Chris Tutas son of Edward -son of Anthony Tutas
and Wanda Hammerski (resided in Springfield Mass). I know we are Prussian and am looking to understand more about any connection. I know my father told me many stories of his father having a lot of brothers and sister some which passed as youth. Anthony owned a butcher shop and fathered my dad and his sister Edna in the 1920's. any help or guidance would be greatfully appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris Tutas Baltimore Maryland

Hello. In reply, I think Tutas is probably a Baltic or Old Prussian name. I know of three Tutas family groups in the US. The first was a group of Tutas immigrants who settled or passed through (late 19th-early 20th century) southwestern Ohio (specifically Hamilton, Ohio); some went on to Chicago, Milwaukee and Ozaukee County, Wisconsin. The common ancestor of this 1st group was said to be Albert Tutas (who did not immigrate) from what is now Poland (north or northwest of Warsaw). The 2nd group I've heard of was immigrant Adulphus or Adolf Tutas and wife Caroline and their descendants, who are associated with origins in the Marinette County, Wisconsin area. A 3rd group I've heard of descended from immigrant Alexander and Eleanor Tutas and is associated with origins in the Wayne County, Michigan area. I don't know of any connection between the three groups. There are probably some other Tutas family groups in the US, but these are the primary groups I've seen in records and on the internet. Hope this info is of interest. - Ron Tutas
