I hope someone is still checking these board. It looks like it's been a while but I thought I'd give it a shot.

My dad is Charles Tustin. He is the great-grandson of Arley Tustin, who died at a young age, 28 I think. Arley was the first son of Godfrey, from his first marriage to a woman named Della Cole. Although I haven't figured out what happened yet, Della's parents raised Arley and Godfrey went on to marry Ethel (maybe she died..?). I'm also interested in hearing about Godfrey's history, and also whether any of Ethel's descendant with Godfrey are aware of his prior marriage and child, and if anyone knows how that marriage ended.

Thanks so much!

Re: Leonard A Tustin

Hi Josie,

Your message is over 10 years old now so I imagine that you have already found out all that you need to know. But just in case you haven't.....

Leonard Albert Tustin was my great-grand mother's brother. I guess that makes him my great grand uncle! He was not one of a twin. There were 5 children in the family; 2 female (Dora Agnes Mary and Hilda Lilian) and two brothers (Jesse Edwin Thomas and Albert Leslie) His father, Albion John Tustin, died in 1906 and his mother, Lillie Harris, remarried. In 1911 they were all living in Sparkbrook, Birmingham. Then something must have happened as the two younger boys (Leonard and Albert) end up working in farms in Canada. They were both Barnardo's Children so I assume the family was too poor or the stepsons were made unwelcome - who know? Leonard arrived in Canada in 1915 and Lesley in 1921. Jesse also emigrated after he had served in WWI of his own accord. The two females remained in the UK.

As I said - you may already know all of this but I thought it was worth it. Happy to share anything else I know with you.

Kindest regards,
Sharon x

I am also researching Jessie M. Inghram Tustin McElhaney. I would really love to have a copy of her obituary. My research reveals that was a daughter of Josephus C. Inghram/Ingram of Washington Co., PA; her parents are both buried in West Finley Cemetery in Washington, PA along with 3 of her brothers.

TUSTIN in Worcestershire

Hello All,
I’ve just come across a series of posts made back in 2000 to the ENG-WORCESTER board re the Worcestershire Tustins, and in particular John Tustin b1856 and Emma Corbett b1861 who married at Hanbury Parish Church in 1887.

John Tustin was my Great grand uncle and his parents, David Henry Tustin 1830-1870 and Mary Crowther 1831-n/k my 2nd great grandparents; David and Mary were married in Hanbury.

My direct line from David Henry Tustin is via his youngest son, Albert Edward Tustin b1870 who in 1891 in Droitwich married a Fanny Willis b1871. David Henry was a chemist and had a business in the centre of Droitwich; he was forced to close this after going blind and a large branch of Boots now stands on the site!

Fanny Willis was apparantly well known for making chamois leather gloves and touring the area giving lessons on this... it seems the main beneficiaries were troops in France during the First World War.

The Tustins kept horses… I can recall my mother showing me a photograph of the very beasts! I believe that John was a baker and delivery of flour from the mill was undertaken by the horses and a rather small lad who took pride of place on the wagon!

Any information that anyone might be able to let me have re this part (or later) of the Tustin family would be gratefully received!

I'm particularly interested in Harry Tustin, my grandfather's brother, who married and moved to Kingston, Surrey, where his son, Roy, was committed - and also Fanny Willis...

Thanks for any help anyone can give!
Colin

Thomas Tustin 1830, England m Mary Smith 1892, England. Of their many children there are 3 daughters we are particularly interested in: Mary, Hannah and Rachael Tustin. We are putting together a mitochondrial comparison for these three sisters and are looking for anyone with mito dna information on their lines. We have two of the three in a form that needs a professional to decode. Does anyone know where in Oklahoma I can find the dna listings…there is a place, I just don’t know the name or how to find it. It has Harvey Longabaugh’s dna test results available to the public and I am in Utah and can’t just run over there at the moment. Thanks for your help.

Hi Jeremy,
just found this message on the board. I believe we are related through my late father, frederick tustin cleminson. he was the son of elizabeth, my grandmother. I think that lily and elizabeth were sisters. I don't get much chance to do my family history but am helping my son do a world war 1 diary and started looking again at the name robert eli tustin, who was my great grandfather.
best wishes Debbie Molloy, Gloucester

Amanda,

There are three trees in Ancestry.com that have information on Jacob Franklin Tustin - Caldwells of Hickory, PA (mine), Moffitt, Rice, Howell, Kiger (Jwhdrk1) and Marshall/Shroy Family Tree (Thomas0007). You can reach the others by using Ancestry to sent a note to the ancestry ids.

There are also several citation for census and draft registrations available.

You seem to be the only one of the trees that knows Cora's name as all the rest just show Cora B. I can sent you the family sheets if you would like them or a GEDCOM file.

Congratulations on the new son!

Gary Caldwell

Hi Dean,

Thank you for the information on Emma. The gentleman who told me this story said that William died and is buried in WV. Last night I found his death record in Wetzel Co, but there's no burial info. If they brought him back to PA, he's probably in the Stewart Cemetery in Wayne Twp without a marker. But that doesn't help with Emma.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but if I come across anything, I'll let you know.

Vicki
I found the info posted at the Cornerstone Genealogical Society's website (cornerstonegenealogy.com) under Greene County Records/Divorces to 1900. It says the records are from the Office of Prothonotary, so I'm assuming you can get copies of the original record from them. I haven't done that yet, so I don't know what additional information the record may include. I'm hoping it gives William's current residence as that may help in determining if there's any truth to the story.

Vicki

I don't have a death date for William, but 1879 is probably correct because he doesn't appear to be on the 1880 census anywhere. William and Sarah were divorced in Greene Co PA in 1870, though they are listed on the census together. I was told that he went to Wetzel Co WV where he remarried (or lived in a common-law marriage) and died there. I was also told that he had more children. I haven't found anything to verify the story, other than the divorce.

Vicki

Hi there,

My name is Amanda Megan (Snodgrass) Koehnlein.
The Tustin name is from my Grandma Loretta Juanita (Snodgrass) Jenkins Side of the family.

If I did my genealogy right and from word from my grandma and my parents my family originally came from Greene Co. PA.

My granda's parents were Henry Jenkins & Mary Tustin. Mary's father was Jacob Franklin Tustin who married Cora (Bell) Eyres (or something spelled like that). I didnt get my Eyres side figured out yet but I know that Isaac Tustin & Permelia Wells are Jacobs parents.

Not to go into the whole family line or anything.. but if you have any other family information that could be of some use or if I have anything you dont let me know.

If I've got my Tustin lines correct, I'm pretty sure that Jacob (b 1844) is Jacob Franklin's (b 1878) uncle. Jacob F.'s father was Isaac, Jacob #1's older brother. They were the sons of William Tustin (1819-1879).

Jeff

If it's the correct William Tustin, I think the date of death is 17 Feb 1879 in Greene Co.

The last census record I was able to locate was 1860 in Wayne Twnshp, Greene Co. I wasn't aware of a 2nd marriage for William. Sarah is listed as a widow in the 1880 census for Springhill Twnshp., Greene Co. living with sons Jacob, John, William, and Hugh and daughter Sarah A.

Seeking any info about the family of Elliot and Dora TUSTIN, who are listed on the 1900, Church District,
Wetzel County census, with wife Dora. He is listed as born April 1863, and Dora October 1872. Dora is listed as having 6 children but only 5 living at that time. Four daughters are listed at the residence, Lilly b 1889, Ada b 1892, Ola b 1896 and Mary b 1899.

Elliot is listed as next door neighbors to D.C. Tustin and
his family and then also the family of Ema Tustin and 2 of
her children. I have already established that D.C. (Doc)
Tustin is the son of Ema (Gregg) Tustin. Ema has 2 children listed at her residence, William (SHULTZ) b Apr 1864 and daughter Emma (Tustin) b March 1879.

Does anyone have the parents of this Elliot Tustin, or know
the maiden name of his listed wife, Dora?

Thanks, Dean

Hi Vicki,

Thanks for the note about the divorce between William Tustin and Sarah Cole. I tried to check the cemetery records within Greene County, Pa, and do not find this William 1819-1879 Tustin, recorded at a cemetery.

I have searched for years to find the burial location of
the mother (Amy/Emma Gregg Tustin) of his second family, with out luck. Tustin family members in the area of Hundred, Wetzel County, West Virginia do not know where Emma TUSTIN is buried. Emma is on 1900 census in Wetzel County, but apparently died prior to the 1910 census.

Amy/Emma Gregg Shultz Tustin, is a sister to my GGrandfather, Samuel Gregg.

Dean Gregg

According to an obituary (unknown paper), William and
Amy Riggs Tustin are listed as the parents of D.C. Tustin, who died at the age of 73 in the Wetzel County Memorial Hospital in New Martinsville, February 23, 1942. He was born in Green (sic) County, Pa, near Freeport, 4 January 1869. Two sisters
survive, Mrs. Amy MURPHY of Hundred (WVa) and Mrs. Kate YOST, of New Martinsville.

Amy or Emma Riggs is actually Amy/Naomi/Emma GREGG, and she shows up on the 1880 census as Emma Tustan, widowed, Church District, Wetzel County, WVa with 5 children, and the 2 oldest being the children from her first marriage to
John SHULTZ, although listed on census as Tustan's.

The D. C. stands for Doc Columbus.
Dean Gregg

Hi Diane,
I have been reading the Tustian entries and have a connection to Emma Tustian who married Milton DEARING. Milt was my g-uncle. I think I remember my cousin Geraldine speaking about Mary Ann RIVETT. Is this the same family?

My Gran was Mary Ella DEARING who married Byron Joseph SMYTH. Mary Ella was Milt's sister.

Dawn

Re: the meaning of the name - one Origin & Spelling Variants

Since the Message Board Rules state that no posts should give links to outside commercial websites, I thought I would post a link to

Ancestry's Learning Center > Family Facts -- at

http://www.ancestry.com/learn/facts/default.aspx

At this link is a drop down menu for multiple types of facts. Enter any Surname, use the menu, and click GO.

Some commercial sites say this:

Origin in Village of Thurston in the county of Suffolk

pre-1066's Conquest, seated at Hoxney, descended from TURSTIN, a Saxon Noble

THUSTONS who were early settlers:
John and Margaret, Boston MA 1637
son Edward moved to VA 1650
Daniel Thurston, New England, 1635

Tustin is an Anglo-Saxon name

Variations: THURSTON, TURSTON, THRUSTON, TURSTIN, ETC.
(end of that info)

Use Google to learn more about origins.

There are also Soundex converters that give spelling variants. Here is an Ancestry.com article that gives links to several converters.::
http://www.ancestry.com/learn/library/article.aspx?article=5...

Rootsweb.com has a converter giving these names: TEGTMEIER, TESTON, THAXTON, TOSTENRUD

And, I have seen some sources that also give THEAKSTON, THEAKSTONE, THEKSTON, THICKSTON, etc.

Hope this info helps.
I am looking for information on Albanus Tustin. He had two daughters (Clara Estell born 1900 & Naomi in 1901) by first wife Minnie Stevens, and one daughter (Jeri-unsure of spelling) by second wife Alice. They were from Philadelphia PA area up to around 1920 then moved to southern Ohio. Any information would be of great assistance.
