I would think that there may be a connection here, bare with me. My grandmother Gertrude E Russell was born in 1916 to Margaret "Tuesa" it may not sound the same but I think it is. There is an old photo of her great grandmother and on the back it says LA BOMBARD Margaret married Clifford RUSSELL. I beieve that Margaret was married before, two daugthers; my grandmother and she had an older sister Ruth that were adopted supposidly by RUSSELL. Do you think that there may be some sort of a connect? LA BOMBARD is a rare last name. I looked at you DU BREY family tree looking for Clifford RUSSELL. Just the other day I received my grandmothers certificate and noticed the names on it. Kind of wild, almost spooky that the day I would actually find any names that make sense. Let me know if you think that they maybe in fact the same. Thanks Trudie

Trudie,
The Margaret Tusa that I have was married to Clifford Russell, and also to a Charles Jay. I do not have any dates of the weddings or any children from these unions. I would say that your Margaret and my Margaret are one and the same. Margaret's mother, Sarah Tusa, was a LaBombard. She would have been my great grandmother. I just barely remember her as a child staying at my grandparents house. Margaret was my grandfathers sister, but I did not know her. My grandfather came from a large family and I only remember a few of his brothers and sisters. In fact the last one (Aunt Helen) just died about 3 months ago. She would have been margaret's sister. She was 97 years old and still in her full facilities. There is a book out called the History of Isle Lamot, and there are quite a few articles on the Tusa, toussaint family. It follows the family tree. Your library might be able to get a copy for you through the loan system if they don't carry it. If you are researching the Tusa line it is interesting.
If I find any more information on Margaret, I will send it on.
Good luck with your research
Jane Venne

Thank you for responding, I'm very curious if the Tusa / Toussaint name was infact the same as the "Tuesa" name listed on my grandmothers marriage certificate as her mothers maiden name. Do you know for a fact that this may very well have been another spelling or version used of the Toussaint name and if that can that be verified. The reason I'm asking, is that the name on the certificate was written by a clerk or whom ever filled the form out, it was not in my grandmothers handwritting, which I know well. Before I can add this information to our family tree I would like to be sure that I have infact found the right persons. Are your Toussaints French / Candian? My grandmother mentioned this often. My grandmothers sister uses the name "Lillian" Ruth Russell. Is the name Lillian from any members of the family? First or middle names? She lives in Danbury, CT. And her address is listed with a Robert Russell, whom I believe maybe her son, carrying her maiden name. Do you know wheather there are Toussaints or Russsells of CT. Also, can I ask how you were able to find the information about Margarets marriages to" Russell" and "Jay" and which was the first marriage? I'm really hoping that I have found the correct persons. Unfortunately, my grandmother died a year ago and I have no way of acqurring any additional information or means in which to verify my findings. All of this is very exciting to me. I appreciate all of your help, thank you again. Trudie

I am also following the Tusa family of Chazy/Isle La Motte. My grandmother was Catherine (also recorded as Kathleen); son of Fred Tusa and Sarah LaBombard. There are some scant references in the history of Isle La Motte to Fred's parents John Tusa and Adeline Ratta. It also briefly mentions that Adeline is the daughter of David Ratta and Dorothy Martin, but I can't prove that. It is interesting that John Tusa died in 1870. The next year, Adeline remarried -- to Peter Vanslett, Jr. of Isle La Motte. By the 1880 Census, 14 year old Fred(dy) has been sent to work as a servant for the more prosperous Hill family on Isle La Motte.

The Tusa/LaBombard/Jarvis family trees collide several times over a few generations. There are several branches that "double back." It was a small island!

Hello,

Could you tell me if you have a record of an Adeline Ratte having married a John Toussaint/Toussant around 1859? I am having a hard time with the last name...It seems to have changed from Cusson...maybe...Thanks
