An article on Jefferson Davis "Jeff" Hardin will be published in June or August edition of the Wild West History Association Journal & titled "In the Shadow of John Wesley Hardin" and is the story of his life and ends with his death in 1901. He was killed in a gunfight. The author is Norman W. Brown.
John Turman was a deputy sheriff of Kimble Co., TX and owned a hotel in Junction. James Barnett Gibson "gip" Hardin did kill him on Mar 28, 1898 as Turman attempted to arrest Gip.
Hardin was tried and given 35 years but had it reduced to three years on appeal. He taught school while in prison at Huntsville.
Some say he was killed in an accident aboard ship off the coast of Florida, yet I have seen no documentation to support this claim. Actually, he probably died before 1910. This is based on Federal census recors of 1910 which listed his wife as a "Widow". I doubt she lied. Another of life's mysteries.
Gip, Jeff, John Wesley and the entire family, including cousins (Dixon & Clements) is being researched. If you have any information please pass it to my attention.
Thanks
N. W. Brown
