Re: Tuohy from Coose Co. Galway
Hello Jason, My 2g grandfather was Stephen Toohey b. abt. 1833 from Ireland. He settled in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. His parents are supposed to be Stephen Toohey and Honora Niven, but I have not be able to confirm that. Unfortunately that is all I know about this line of the family and besides being from Ireland I have no other more exact location.
Recently I have been trying to follow a lead on another 2g grandfather, Michael Hanney (Haney) b. 1833 in County Galway, Ireland. The church baptism record gives a date of birth as 18 January 1833, County Galway, parish Killimor. The father's name is Michael Hanney and the mother's name is Catherine Mannion.
Apparently the parish Killimor could refer to two different locations in County Galway. The first location is Killimor Bullogue/Killimorbologue. The second locaton is Killimordaly now called Kiltullagh. I am uncertain how to go about determining a more exact location and finding records in Ireland that will provide more leads to follow.
This particular Michael Hanney b. January 1833 is a very strong lead for me to follow. My Michael Hanney was married 1855 in Stockport, England and gave his father's name as Michael Hanney. One of the witnesses to the marriage was Ann Mannion. Furthermore when my Michael Hanney immigrated to St. Louis, Missouri, USA he went to work for a Peter Patrick Manion and remained in his employ for many years.
I would appreciate any help you could give me in narrowing down the location of Parish of Killimor, family connections between the Hanney and Manion families, what records are available for research and following this lead.

Re: Tuohey from Coose Co. Galway
I have a challenge finding the father of three brothers that emigrated from Coose to Kansas during the 1860s. Mathew (b1847), John Bernard (b7 May 1849) and Michael (b1851). In the U.S. it appears that they spelled the name Tuohey, but in Ireland Tuohy. John, my ggrandfather named his male children: James (died infant), John (died infant), Michael Joseph, Cornelius Matthew, Patrick Francis and Ignatius Aloysius. We think James was John's father's name living in Coose.
John's brother Mathew returned to Ireland believed to reside near Whitegate around 1882. He had another brother and three sisters remain in Ireland but we believe only one sister ever married. Other names appear frequently in female side: Mary, Margaret, Honora. Another uncle (?) or relative lived in Kansas named Michael Tuohey (b1823).
Any help is appreciated.

Re: Tuohey from Coose Co. Galway
If confirmed that James was indeed the father and his brothers included Cornelius, Matthew (returned to Coos SOuth from Ireland), John (USA my GGrandfather) and Michael (USA). The 1911 census of Ireland showed Matthew as a retired farmer living with Cornelius and sisters.
We American Tuohey's are a fun bunch and would love to know more on James' father and mother if possible. Thanks for reaching over the ocean to help.

Hi Jason
I am trying to trace information on my grandad, John Tuohy, who was born in Looscaun. We know his father was called Joseph and we believe his mother could have been Brigid Minogue. He had a brother called Patrick. He was born around 1879 but we cannot find any record of his birth.

Re: Tuohey from Coose Co. Galway
My maternal grandmother was Margaret Tuohey, b.@1885 Brown Co.Ks.Married name HEPTIG. Her brothers were Cornelius(Neal),Pat and Mike et.al. I believe one of those brothers was a naval aviator who went down in L. Michigan @1918. There are Tuoheys in the Kansas City phone book who are likely relatives. I would appreciate any info you might unearth, and I have more to share. JIM

Re: Tuohey from Coose Co. Galway
While I believe Mike was a pilot, Patrick was the one you are referring to and it was Lake Erie near Detroit that his plane went down in a winter storm killing all five passengers. I have several newspaper articles all stating some facts about the fated trip. The immediate family believes that Pat was sort of a playboy / hero of the times. He was an early aviator but nothing much is found on his military record. He was also a race pilot but nothing found in that history either.
Send me you contact information and I will pass along some clipppings and anything else you may want. Please share any new information if you come up with any.
