i'm trying to trace my tuohy tree, but i cant get any further info as records were destroyed when church burnt down. they are from inishloe, co clare, eire. in the killadysart census of 1901 thomas is 46 and anne macmahon is 26 and they had four children, michael, mary, bridget and john. john emigrated to america, married and had john jr. bridget stayed in county clare with husband and a couple of children of which doreen was one. dont know what happened to mary, but michael born 1893, married isabel robertson in durham area uk and they had thomas and peter. i am following michael's line. any information would be great thank you.

I believe John1898 TUOHY to have been my Great Uncle - he, with my Great Aunt Gertrude1898 SHEPHERD, emigrated to Florida USA in the 1920/30's. Gerty's brother Frederick was my Grandpa, and their sister Lavinia was my Great Aunt too.
You appear to have pictures of Lavinia, and of Fred's marriage venue, copied from ShepherdfamilytreeJan2010 - and earlier SHEPHERD info - so it would appear we have some ancestry in common.
I have off-tree info (and queries)I'd like to discuss - so please contact me through Ancestry messages....user name alanfshepherd

hi alan
it's good to hear someone that even comes close to the tuohy's i'm researching. thank you contacting me. my apologies for not getting back to you sooner.
in response to your query, yes, it does look like we have some common ancestors, but from what i can see, we are not blood related, only through marriage.gertrude shepherd did indeed marry john tuohy, my grandfather's brother, and he did emigrate to usa, in 1921. i'm not sure how many children he had, but i know he had a son called john too as i remember meeting him when he visited scotland some 40 odd years ago. peter tuohy was my father and tom, my uncle. both have passed on now.
i would be very interested to learn about your knowledge of the tuohy family, either in the states or in inishloe (low island) ireland. in turn, please feel free to email me your queries and i will do my best to help.
in the meantime, good luck in your plight.
best wishes
pepita

Hi Pepita
have recently added a few US TUOHYs to my tree - not positive but fairly confident of the connections - sadly much was gained from the obit of Debra Ann's daughter Shayna Alexsandra, who died earlier this year just before her 22nd birthday
digging about today I have come across the 1911 census for Inishloe
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Clare/Killa...
some new arrivals and some disappearances compared to 1901

Hi Pip
could these entries relate to Bridget (sister of John 1898)
Marriages Sep 1919 - seems likely to me

EGAN Arthur Tuohy Newcastle T. 10b307

Tuohy Bridget Egan Newcastle T. 10b307

Tuohy Bridie Egan Newcastle T. 10b307
and
Births Mar 1922 a daughter

Egan Doreen B Tuohy Gateshead 10a 2093
that's not far from
Tynemouth, Northumberland, England
Marriages Sep Q 1917 Robertson Isabella C Tuchey Tynemouth 10b 516 Tuohey Michael Robertson Tynemouth 10b 516
and the births of Michael's sonThomas and Peter
- you said earlier that Bridget remained in Ireland with her husband, but also said she had a daur Doreen [among others] - so perhaps she came across with her brothers, married, and went back "home"

any chance you could email me copies of Tuohy pics? alanfshepherd@aol.com

Hi Pip,
another Tuohy tree researcher has been in touch with me - he is Matthew grandson of Doreen Egan - he has recent pic of the cottage on Innishloe (which he says is still in the family).
my freebie tree does not allow me access to your tree or the chance to copy any of your photos.
please get back to me to discuss the way forward.
ta Alan

sorry pip - got my lines crossed - David Flanagan is the chap that's been in touch re Tuohys - don't know his mother's first name or surname after O'leary, but he says Doreen is his maternal grandmother, and he visits her and the island. So, from that, you can probably work out his line. I think the pic he took too big to attach
you can give me access to view your tree by sending me an invitation - using the "share your tree" option on the "tree pages" menu (that's a couple of clicks and enter my email address alanfshepherd@aol.com and then click invite). if you wish to allow me to see living people records then I can guide you through that too.
David's not signed up to Ancestry, but you could invite him too (in a similar fashion to me) - if you wish - I have his email but don't like putting other people's on here - I can check with him, or you can email me and I'll pass yours on to him
- let me know how you feel about that
