There are several variations of the name "Tuohey." Back in the 1800's there was not a great lot of schooling and many could not read or write. Some of our clansmen diliberitly changed the spelling to start a new life in America and some "Officials" recording back then had difficulties spelling also. They recorded the surname phonically, as it sounded. If you want our family crest look up "Tuohy." Other spellings are Twey, Toohy, Toohey.Touhy, Touhey, TooeyTwoey, and so forth. Most of us Tuoheys are Claremen, from the County Clare in the Emerald Isle and we're all related in some form or another, cousin. I hope this helps you? John Edward "Jack" Tuohey

My great grandparents were John Tuohey (b. 1895 in Ireland) and Catherine McElhone (b. 1892) and settled in NYC. They had four children Alice, Helen, James and John. Does any of this fit?

Hello John,

My great-great grandfather was John Tuohey born in County Clare...I'm not sure when. He married Anne McGurk (McGuirk) and she was born around 1858...would you happen to know where else I could find any information on the Tuohey's of County Clare?

Regards,

Erin
