I am researching my family name I know my grandfather left England was in the Boar war and went to South Africa. He then lived there until his family came to Canada. He and his brothers stayed in Canada and his parents, one sister and brother went back to Africa. Any information I could find out would be appreciated.

I'm researching the family too! The earliest
Tunbridge I can find is Adelidis de Tunbridge
who was born around 1080 in Handell, York-
shire, England. I discovered this on the
Family History website, organised by the
church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints.
Most Tunbridges seem to come from the Burnham-
on-Crouch area of Essex, as did my great-
great-grandfather Henry. He married Hannah
Brett, and their 3rd child was my great-
grandfather Herbert. He married Florence
Willis in Bow, East London, and from then on
we were all East Londoners (Cockneys!) till
the 1960s 70s when various branches moved
back out to Essex, ie Southend, Braintree,
Witham. If any of this sounds familiar I'd be
grateful for more info.

I am also researching the Tunbridge family. I am an 'Eastender' by birth and have records back to the mid-C19th.

Most of what I have discovered about the family is similar to information on your message. The problem I have got is in the C19th. there were a lot of Tunbridges with the same names and following line is difficult.

I would be happy to share information

I would be grateful for any information you have. My main problem at the moment is establishing the identity of my g-g-grandfather Henry's parents. I suspect they may have been George Mary (nee Cole) who had many, many children including Herbert (sometimes Harbert) Isaac, whose g-g-grand- daughter recently contacted me. I no longer have the time to travel to the nearest library that has the births, marriages deaths index on microfiche, so I was thinking of paying a researcher to do this after Christmas. It seems a bit like cheating though! I would like to see your own family tree if that's OK. Feel free to e-mail me personally.
By the way, according to the 1881 Census, Henry and Hannah Tunbridge were living in the Burnham on Crouch, Essex, area and their children were: JANE (domestic servant), GEORGE, HERBERT (scholar; my great-grandfather) and FLORA (scholar).
My great-grandfather Herbert was 24 when he married FLORENCE WILLIS, age 18, in 1896, in Bow, East London.
I can elaborate more if you like, but as I say I need to establish Henry's parents.
Hope to hear from you.

Thank you so much for the information and there is a Tilden in our family that resided in Toronto after coming from South Africa. He was one of 5 brothers and one sister. I am going to contact what family we have here and see if this information fits in somewhere. Again thank you

The names I had were a Tilden, Gordon, Clifford and Sidney Tunbridge that came to Toronto and remained here. Sidney Senior his wife and one daughter and one boy went back to South Africa because they found the winters here too cold.

I sent a message to Jenny Friend regarding the following names,
Sidney Tunbridge
Clifford Tunbridge
Gordon Tunbridge
Tilden Tunbridge
who all came from South Africa with their father Sidney who died on June 30, 1948, his wife another son and a daughter. Four of the boys stayed in Canada and the others went back to South Africa because they found the winters too cold here.
If any of these names ring a bell contact me so we can share information.

Thank you.

Also in response to your message my brother mentioned that my Dad said that he had an Aunt in South Africa that was a Judge if that is any help.

If anyone has any information I would be very thankful and could possibly add some more information to the Family Tree.

Surnames: Tunbridge, Morrison, Peters
I am interested in Mary Tunbridge, b. 1861, d. 1899 which you have noted in your query. Do you know who her children were? Please see new Tunbridge query; it was supposed to be a reply to yours.
