I am looking for Tummans or derivatives (Tummon, Tummons,Tumming etc) in the 1700's in the Thrybergh/ Rotherham/ Sheffield areas of Yorkshire, England. I believe they are all likely to have common ancestry. I know Tummon(s) continued in South Yorks until the end of the 19th century. Any information would be welcomed

Hi! Not sure if you are the John Tumman from Sunderland I've communicated with before. If so, hello. If not, let me know as I've got connections to other Tummans in England who've done extensive research.

My great-grandfather Richard Tumman married Betsy Lee from Goole, Yorkshire. He was born in Ingham, Lincolnshire. His father was William Tumman and Anne Storrof Hibaldstow.

My wife’s great grandfather was Thomas Copeman who married Adelaide Tummons around 1861 and had 7 children. Adelaide was the youngest of 11 children. Her parents were William Tummons born 1790 in Darrington near Knottingley and Mary Brown born 1785/6 in Knottingley
Does this tie-in with any of your records?

Our Betsey Lee was born 17 April 1849, bapt. 6 May 1849 at St. Johns the Evangelist in Goole, Yorkshire. Betsey was one of nine known children from extracted family bible records. I was lucky enough to see the original intent and citizenship record of her father, George Lee, which had been handed down through the Lee family. Her mother was Hannah and they are buried in Portland, Oregon close by my husbands gr grandparents, George Ren & Hannah Marie (Lee) Shaw (b. & bapt 1852, Goole). I have been looking for the sisters off and on for years. We have a photo of George Lee the father, Hannah Marie and her brother William M. Lee.
Hope to hear from you. Kathryn

I have a couple of Frederick Tummans so I'll throw both out and see if any fit your information:
-Frederick John Delancy Tumman born 7/11/1864-mother is Mary Catherine Tumman
-Frederick Robinson Tumman born about 1843 married Elizabeth Lawson-they had a son Frederick born about 1878
Tumman Cousin, Nigel Cookson, from London who supplied this information had this to offer:
"Frederick Robinson Tumman - in a nut shell - he was a miller - married twice - had 13 children by first wife none by second. Moved between Scawby and Lincoln early doors but settled in Scawby (mill still there but converted into house!). Wife died and he moved south and remarried in 1900. Died in 1917"

Hi Kimberly
I've just picked up on your query. It's actually my wife that is descended from a William Tummons, her gr gr grandfather born 1791, and I don't think there is any connection as all the Tummons in my wife's family tree are all from Yorkshire
Regards

Hi just getting back to you. Like I said not sure where he came from he was NOT born in St, merryn, Cornwall. He came out to do some Rabbit hunting. About 1799 and well he was there he met his wife Elizabeth Morcumbe and they married. I am trying to find out where he was born. They give him two names Colton or Cotton Tummon.
