My Grandfather, Emil Tuma came to the US from bohemia on the SS May in 1909 with his parents, numerous brothers and sisters. They settled in Chicago. His parents (My great Granparents) were Frank Tuma and Marie 'Mary' Harant. Frank, who died about 1912-14, was a stone cutter, but am unable to find anything about his parents... If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

The name Mary Harant is familar to me. Do you know any of the brothers or sister of Mary? I have a great-aunt name Mary Harant from Bohemia, she was born between 1888 and 1903. Her brothers and sister were named Frank, Jan, Bessie, Charles, and Joseph (half-brother). Might she be in your line??

My HARANT family was from CZ, Chinitz-Tettau. They were there in 1880. Moved to Bavaria. Lived in Heimbrechtsreuth. Joseph HARANT went to Pennsylvania in 1925. Married into WOLF family, also from CZ.

Wow, I posted that so long ago. Unfortunately, Frank doesn't sound familiar to me at all. The Mary I know was born May 23, 1890. She had a brother (possible half-brother Joseph. Their father was Jan (John) and he lost his leg in a foundry accident. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Tuma doesn't ring a bell at all, sorry. Mary had a brother Frank Harant, but he died when he was 3.

Hi, I might be able to find out from my father, who is 82 now and who was born in Chinitz-Tettau. He often talked about a Harant family, some of whom we still knew in Bavaria. We also know some Wolfs, who also left CZ to got to Bavaria and Swabia.
