Tugnutt to Tucknott

Surnames: Tucknott Tugnutt
Hello! I have been researching our family tree and figured I would start with my father's father thinking it would be easier . . . Not so! I have been a Tucknott for forty one years nad today found out that we were originally Tugnutts. The problem is that we believe that my paternal grandfather was adopted and we do not know when he became a Tugnutt/Tucknott. His name is Fred and he married Amelia Dorrington. I estimate thet he was born in Brighton between 1900-1910 and they had eight children. I believe that the last one was my father Victor born in 1945 . . . Does any of this seem familiar to anybody? Can anyone help?

Thank you.

Paul,
I did get your email and I have emailed you back. I have lots of family tree information, our grandfather Fred Tucknott was born to an unmarried mother and hence he was given his mother's maiden name which was Tugnutt. Over the years the names Tucknott/Tugnutt have been used interchangeably, a pain for research. Fred & Amelia (both of whom I knew well until their deaths in 1986 and 1980 respectively) had 10 children and I have known all of them throughout my life except for your father. I know why that is the case, email me back on my personal EMail and I'll tell you what I know about the Tucknotts and Tugnutts!
Dawn.
