In a search of the 1881 census for Sussex the following were found:
TUGNUTT family in Brighton
TUGNOTT family in Brighton
TUGNUTT mother and daughter in Brighton
Ellen TUGNET servant born in Steyning working in Brighton
Ellen TUGNETT with son Harry Isaac and daughter Alice living with TUCKER family in Brighton

They are so condensed in that area that I suspect they are all related.Do not discount the variant TUCKNOTT.

I don`t know anything about the people you are looking for but we may have a mutual interest. I have been looking for anything on Walter Tugnett or Tugnutt who married Jeanie Hamlin in Woolwich Kent about 1887.
I believe he came from Wiston Sussex then moved to Abbotts Langley Herts before I finally lost track off him.

Perhaps Wiston, Sussex is the answer to your question I know the Tugnett was there around 1830

my father Philip Dunk, was born in RYE in Sussex on 5 feb 1913. His father, also Philip died 29 Dec 1917 ??.

The family may have had a coffee shop in Rye around the time of WW1.

Some of this info may help.

An Emma Tugnutt of Falmer/Brighton was married to my paternal great grandfather William Stevens. I am trying to put the pieces together for the STEVENS family. Any suggestions?
Many thanks
