I have quite a fair amount of information on the Tugman's of England of which I am one. I would be happy to have the information photocopied and sent to you if you so wish. Best regards, and Merry Christmas, Richard Tugman.

Surnames: TUGMAN, SWEETEN, HODGE, BUNTON, ENGLEHART
I descend from the TUGMAN lines as follows:

James TUGMAN and wife Elizabeth
(James appears on the 1810 census in Wilkes county NC as TUGMON)

their son - Edward TUGMAN (b. abt 1770 in Wilkes county NC; d. Bef. March 17, 1837 in Laurel county KY; various spellings include Edward or Edmond or Edmund TUGMON or TYMAN)
and his wife Sarah R. SWEETEN (b. Abt. 1774 in Wilkes county NC, daughter of Dutton SWEETEN (aka: Dutton SWEEDEN or SWEETON formerly of Baltimore county MD, Grainger county TN in 1799 and as of 1817 Clay county KY); d. Abt. December 15, 1857 in Laurel county KY; spellings include Sarah SWEEDEN or SWEETUM) they md. Abt. March 16, 1790 in Wilkes county NC

their daughter Rebecca TUGMAN (b. Abt. 1794 in NC; d. Aft. July 26, 1860; spellings include Rebacah or Rebeka FERGUSON, TUGMON, TUGMAN)
and her husband Shadrach HODGE, Sr. (b. Aft. 1785 in VA thought to be the son of Meshach HODGE (aka: Meshack or Mashack or Meshie or Mashac HODGES); d. Abt. 1856; spellings include Shadrick or Shadrack HODGE, Sr.) they md. December 12, 1811 in Clay county KY

their son Shadrach HODGE, Jr. (b. Abt. 1814 in Clay county KY; d. Aft. August 09, 1870 probably in Laurel county KY; spellings include Shadrack or Shadrick or Shadrock or Shade HODGE or HOAGE)
and his wife Mahala BUNTON (Abt. 1815 in Clay county KY daughter of James B. BUNTON (aka: James BENTON) and Keziah SWEETEN (aka Kesiah or Kisiah SWEETEN or SWEETUM or SWEEDEN); d. Abt. August 25, 1857 in Laurel county KY) they md. September 19, 1833 in Laurel county KY. They were first cousins once removed.

their son William A. HODGE b. Abt. 1834 in Laurel county KY; d. Aft. 1868
and his wife Adaline ENGLEHART (b. Abt. 1842 in Boone county MO daughter of George J. ENGLEHART, Jr. (aka: George INGLEHART or ENGLEHEART or INGLEHEART) and Elizabeth HUDSON (aka: Betsy); d. Bef. November 07, 1880 possibly in Laurel county KY; spellings include Adaline INGLEHART or EGLEHART) they md. when she was only 13 years old on January 17, 1856 in Laurel county KY his father was listed as witness and bondsman. Their marriage ended in divorce on March 20, 1868 in Laurel county KY with lots of accusations.

This is where I have a major problem ---- I descend from the last child attributed to this marriage, John Lankford HODGE (spellings include Lank or Langford HODGE or HODGS or HODGES). The exact date of his birth has never been satisfactorily proved.

I know this is an old posting, but I also descend from the Tugman/Sweeten/Hodge line. Are you still interested in exchange of information on any of these ancestors. I can be reached at habbudha@aol.com if you prefer. Anyone who wants to share anything, please reply. Sarah Sweeten is my 4th or 5th gr. grandmother. She married a Tugman. It's my understanding she was a Native American, of the Cherokee Nation.

I think we may be distant (?) cousins, as the Tugmans/Sweedens were also my line, through my Hodge family.
I realize this is an old posting, but hope you are still available to exchange information. I descend through the James, Meshack, Shadrach, line. We may possibly be related.
My e-mail is habbudha@aol.com if you care to contact me directly. Thanks so much
