You seem to be able to connect to many of the people on this string. There are several messages talking about 8 Tugendhaft siblings in the late 1800's including Dovid's grandfather Yisroel David and Joshua's great grandfather named Asher, Meyer Tugendhaft and Shmuel Tugendhaft. Many of the family names are the same as in my family. I am wondering if my great great grandfather naphtali was one of those siblings. He had a brother named Moses David. They both immigrated to Canada in 1889 so the dates would be correct. Does any of that sound possible. Do you think the town the 8 came from in Scienjawa, Poland. Where is that? Do you know? Why did you believe we were certainly related? You can email me directly at ijaloway@yahoo.com. Thanks for your response. Irene Jalowayski

My great grandfather was Leib (?Yehuda Leib) Tugendhaft, who was born in Sokolov in the mid 19th century. I think he was one of the 8 Tugendhaft siblings mentioned in some of these postings. I am trying to confirm the exact name of their shtetl in Galicia. I am fairly certain it is Sokolow Malopolski. Can anyone out there confirm this name?

I now have much more geneology information than when I last posted a couple of years ago. My grandfather Benjamin Tugendhaft was born in Toronto Canada in 1895. His father Moses david or David tugendhaft was born in Galicia. but went to Canda as a child. My great great Grandfather Napthali was born in Sokolow Malopolski in 1848. both he and his brother Joseph immigrated to Canada in 1889. Their father was also Moses David and his father was Aron. does any of this seem to fit with anyone else. Some of my Tugendhaft family was from Sokolow, some had records from Stryj and some from Boryslow. All were chohanim.

My Goodness,

I found a cousin, as all the names you have mentioned are part of my Tugendhaft Lineage! This comes from my Bauman Family Tree, & Amalia Bauman was my great grandmother, paternal-side. Her sister, Matel Bauman married Usher Tugendhaft, who was born in 1840 (I believe in Ulanpw, POland). Their children were Hennel ("Henni"), Pessel ("Pessi"), Golda, Yacov, Herman & Shaul, born 8-20-1885. Gisela & Gerda-Liza died in the Shoah. Their sister, Lilly, was born in 1914. Herman & REgina Tugendhaft gave birth to Sophie & Frieda Tugendhaft. My Aunt Frieda is alive & well at close to 100 years of age. Sophie's offspring live in the D.C. Area. Shaul Tugendhaft died in Bergen Belson of Typhoid fever. His wife was Sarah Abend. Their children are the Mordechai (Tugendhaft) Ben Dov who you referred to. I don't know why he changed his surname. Sisters are Gisels/also called Naomi who married into the Nahari Family in Israel, & Fieda "Michal" Tugendhaft. From there I have the descendants very well traced, & we are mostly in the U.S. & Israel. I have put much of our tree onto Geni. There is also a Tugendhaft Family GRoup I've tapped into on Facebook where I, in addition, have put my Bauman/Frost Family Group.
