My Great Grandfather was Henry Tuffley, son of Joseph and Elizabeth, and they lived in Leicester. Henry emigrated to Australia in the mid-1800's.

Joseph Tuffley, aged about 29, married Elizabeth Gordon, aged about 24, on 24 January 1815 in Hoby, near
Leicester, ENGLAND. They had eight children:

George Tuffley in 21
James Tuffley in 1816
John Tuffley in 1817
Letitia Tuffley in 1820
Joseph Tuffley in 1823
William Tuffley in 1825
Henry Tuffley in 1827
Mary Ann Elizabeth Tuffley in 1832

Joseph's father was also Joseph:

JOSEPH TUFFLEY (Henry's grandfather) was born on 13 March 1737 in Walton on the Wold, near Leicester, ENGLAND
to John Tuffley and Barbara Unknown.

(Joseph married twice. He was married to Mary Lauder95 and Ann Glover.)

MARY LAUDER (Henry's grandmother) was born in Newton Lindford, near Leicester, ENGLAND.

Joseph Tuffley, aged 42, married Mary Lauder on 10 May 1779 in Newtown Lindford, near Leicester,
ENGLAND. They had one son:
Joseph Tuffley in 1785

Do any of these names look familiar to you? I would welcome an exchange of information.

Dear Ant,

There is no record of Mary Ann Elizabeth emigrating to Australia with her brother Henry (my Great Grandfather). As far as anyone knows, Henry came alone.

I would welcome information.

I've traced a Mary Ann Tuffley born around 1822 in Syston, Leicester. Alas this is 10 years before the Mary Ann in your family tree.
I can't find a birth record for either Mary Ann born 1820 - 1835. Can I ask how you know the exact date of birth for your Mary Ann?

Looking at the information I have on Mary Ann Tuffley (1823), it seems she did not marry, but had at least 2 children (Robert b1850 and John b1861 (my great-great-grandad)) and died in 1900.

My brother Gordon put together the family tree. I do not know where he got the dates from. I'll ask him when he gets back from his travels through the top end of Australia.

Could be a simple transcription error 1822 / 1832.

In any case, Mary Ann sounds like an independent woman - good for her!
