Hi,

My Great grandfather was a Thomas Tuffin who was born in Dorset in October 1876.His father was Frederick Charles Tuffin born Sutton Waldron Parish Dorset about 1830 and his mother was Helen (also known as Ella or Ellen) Hawkins b 1845. Frederick was married twice and had at least one son Frederick Junior who was born about 1868/69 to a previous marriage. This son or his grandson came to Western Australia and lived in Victoria Park, Perth during the 1940's and 1950's. I believe his descendents live in Thornlie and and Forrestfield. Children of the second marriage to Helen include Thomas, Caroline and several other children. One of the daughters lived in Brighton England during the 1960's. I think her name was Lily Perkins. Other brothers lived in Bulford Wiltshire at the turn of the century. Still other brothers I believe went to Melbourne and Sydney.

Thomas Tuffin travelled first to Bulford Witshire during the 1880's and 1890's. His mother was living at or near there in 1903 as I have a postcard from her stamped with the this date and place.Thomas later went to London and lived at 23 Gaitskell Street from 1903 to 1910. In 1903 he married Maude Alice Thomson (b London 1875 d Perth WA 1963)In October 1903 their only surviving daughter Beatrice Florence was born. In 1910, the family migrated to Western Australia and Thomas went to Mullalyup to work for Hawter Brothers Nursery there. In 1916, he moved to Glen Forest where he managed the Hawter Nursery there. Thomas and Maude bought a house in Hawter Road and some land in Tuffin Road which is named after them. In 1925 Thomas and Maude moved to Toodyay where they lived until a horse and cart accident nearly killed Thomas in 1933. From there they moved to Carlisle and then East Perth where Maude died in 1963. Thomas later moved to Nedlands where he died in the Alfred Carson Silver Chain Nursing Hospital in 1972. Thomas daughter Beatrice married my grandfather Victor Charles Wood in 1925 and she died in 1984. My father Lenard Victor and his brother Hubert Gilson Wood are bothe still alive.

I hope that there is some connection between us and we can share our reserach.

Jeff

Hi Jeff
I am Neil Tuffin of Forrestfield
My father was Jack Tuffin and he had two brothers George and Arthur - now all deceased. My Dad was born in Mundaring ( not far from Glen Forrest)in 1915, his family had recently moved from England.
At this moment I am very busy but I would love to chat about our connections and history some time.
Please use my email address tuffin@mail.com for direct contact.
I think our grandfathers were brothers - my grandfather died at Woorooloo when I was one year old in 1953 I think.
Must rush now - very nice to hear from you and look forward to more chat later.
Sincere best regards,
Neil.

Hi Jeff,

I hope you are still checking in on this message board. I have been researching the TUFFIN's for a few years now and have built up an extensive data base. I have gone through it and can't seem to place your branch. I have Neil TUFFINS information so if he is correct in his assumption that your grandfathers were brothers that may help. Anyway contact me at gordonpearcy@home.com and we can exchange information.

Mr. Tuffin,
My Wife's mother was a Tuffin, who was born and raised around Pontiac, Michigan. She asked me to see if I could
find any information regarding her lineage. I am replying to your posting, because my mother in law's father, had the first name of Arthur and his father's name was Neil. If Arthur were alive today he would have been just over 100 years old. His wife who suffers from Altz. is in a Florida nursing home at this time, and is approaching her 100th birthday. My Question is; Do you have any knowledge of a branch of the Tuffin family in the central part of the States? Secondly,is there any meaning
attached to the Tuffin name?
Any response would be appreciated.

With a handshake,
Randall M. Hoover

Hello to you Pat Tuffin!

I am the descendant of Emma Jane (Atrill) House, sister to Mary Hooper (Atrill) Gilbert.

I have just begun following your messages and posts within rootsweb and wished to thank you for all the detail and work you have undertaken! My own research, while difficult enough for a beginner, would have been much more difficult if not for your efforts.

I am wondering if you have any further information on Emma's mother, one Anne Friar?

Thanks again,

Glenda M. Bennett
