I've saved researching my Italian line for last... boy is it tough!! From what I've been able to gather, though, most of the Tufanos actually hail from Acerra, which is outside of Naples... easier to mention a big city when asked where you're from, but it sure muddles up the research a few generations later! - My great-great grandparents were Antonio and Mary Madalena Tufano of Acerra. They produced all daughters: Giovanna, Inez, Rosa, and Angela. My great-grandmother Angela, born 12-23-1877 in Acerra, married Ignazio Soriano and subsequently emigrated to upstate NY. Don't know if this helps anybody, but hey, a little info is better than none at all!

History Of The Tufano name

To All Tufano's!!!

hi,

There is a town just outside Rome, Italy, called TUFANO...i have not been there yet but one day hope to take my sons to see if we look like any of them!!!

One assumes this was where the Tufano name came from...people from Tufano taking the name from that Roman Town...there's another theory too...

We were probably descendants from Emperor Cesser Tufano who ruled Rome in 200 BC. Only kidding...

The history of the Tufano name derives from the greek Theo., meaning God..

So when names were being handed out many many years ago (BC) my forefathers must have been religious, and chose a spiritual name reflecting God's power, one hypothesis:

''God arrives''' being the greek translation for Tufano which in Greek is Theo(something...) Don't ask me I read it somewhere...

My grandmothers name was Falco, her name is clearly connected to the Falcon, which in medieval times was a trade, namely Falconry...

One of these three TUFANO chaps below, and I don't know what one, would have been my grandfathers father...I assume

take care fellow Tufano's

These are the first TUFANO's to have settled in England according to the census...one of them must be my grandfathers dad...

Hi my name is Donald, and I am the grandson of Mary Soriano-Worhty-Foster. Who was the daughter of Ignazio, and Angela Soriano, and the sister of Tony, Dominic, and Teresa. I too am attempting to trace our Italian heritage. I realize that your post is several years old, but am hoping you still take a look once in a while. If so please drop me a line.

Ciao per adesso,

Hi Sylvia,

I can't believe I didn't see your message before...maybe I did and if so you don't have to respond.

Your are so right about researching this family!!!

Ok, my grandfather is also an Antonio Tufano born about 1881-3 Acerra. He married Maddalena D'Addio and they came separetly 1906 & 07 first to Brooklyn and moving to Chicago.
They had 5 children: Theresa (died as an infant-possibly on ship to America) then my dad Luigi Luciano 1908 New York..and three more daughters Theresa (again), Raffella "Rose", Antoinette (Angie)and a son Charles J.

They had a cousin in Chicago, or more than one, who had opened a saloon/resturant which is now Tufano's Vernon Park Pub. It has been there almost one hundred years and DiBounos (family??) bought it.

If you are sitll doing this geno. please write me.

Thank you and best wishes,

Magdalena "Lee" Marion (Mary again but opposite your grandmothers name Tufano Ludington
