Tucek = Toutcheque = Touchet ???

Tucek = Toutcheque = Touchet ???

Am wondering if anyone can tell me if my current last
name (Touchet) may have evolved from Tucek... to Toutcheque... to Touchet. My first ancestor in America was Czech, born in Prague and came to the U.S., eventually settling in south Louisiana. I have contacted the Czech communities in north Louisiana (Kolin and Libuse); there are 5 Tuceks buried in the Libuse cemetery... but no one seems to be able to connect them with my family in South Louisiana. Any help would be appreciated.

I am writing a book on Czechs and Slovaks in Louisiana, and I have come across a bunch of other information and people looking for and relating to Toucheque, Toutcheque, Tucek and other variations -- this is a most intriguing bit of info and I would like to know as much as you know
please get in touch with me at

I do believe that your last name started as Toutcheque... I had several members of the family change their last name to what you have now to save money on signs...

The Touchet family in SW Louisiana evolved from TUTZEK in 1700 from Prague Chez. See the family tree for Touchet and Perry families of Vermilion Parish.
