Tuach McKenzie -Ross & Cromarty
Tuach and McKenzie seem interchangeable in my branch of the family. If I have traced correctly, George Mackenzie christened, Oct,5,1759, Killearnan Parents: Alexander Mackenzie , Margaret Tuach married Ann Macleay son - Donald McKenzie or Tuach Donald McKenzie or Tuach b.1786 married Catherine Matheson son: Alexander Tuach McKenzie born 1856 Roderick Mckenzie or Tuach My grandfather, Alexander Mackenzie was born to Alexander Tuach McKenzie and Ann MacKay in Redcastle on the Black Isle. In the 1861 census I believe the family is listed as: Donald Tuach, Catherine Tuach children: Alexander, William, Roderick, Gregor,Kenneth Anything sound familiar? Sure like some help on this. Sincerely Maxine Munsil

Re: Tuach McKenzie -Ross & Cromarty
I am also looking for TUACHS and have TUACH MACKENZIES also in my tree, also in black isle, which is where I live.
Tuach is a surname which was used by descendants of a son of a MacKenzie of Gairloch. Around the time of Hector Roy MacKenzie, 1st of Gairloch (died c1528), a body of Mackenzie's went to aid Ewen Beag M'Connel M'Ewan of Locheil (the Cameron's) in Lochaber in some dispute or other with the MacIntoshes. As they were from the north they were given a 'nickname' and 'Tuachach' has in the gaelic some sort of inference to northerner. When some of these Mackenzie's returned north they continued to be known by their Lochaber nickname.
My lot tended to drop the TUACH around 1900 and revert to MACKENZIE. No match found though !

Re: Tuach McKenzie -Ross & Cromarty
Hi. Sorry we have no David's in this line. Gr.gr. grandparents were Donald McKenzie or Tuach and Catherine Matheson, Donald's father was George McKenzie or Tuach, mother Ann MacLeay. The Tuach was dropped about 1906 with the death of Alexander. Good luck with your search. Maxine

Re: Tuach McKenzie -Ross & Cromarty
My 3rd great grandparents were George Tuach and Ann MacLeay. Their daughter Margaret (Peggy)died 1872 married an Alexander MacRae whose descendants have the right to bear Arms as recorded in the Letters Patent from the Lord Lyon in 1971 to John Duart MacRae.

Re: Tuach McKenzie -Ross & Cromarty
Hi, I have come across this rather late in the day in pursuit of more information about the WW1 service of my relative, David Tuach who was killed on the Western Front. You may already have discovered this but the tradition in Scottish legal records is to preserve the family name of mothers as well as fathers, so that in your example, George's mother is recorded as Margaret Mackenzie or Tuach. I hope even at this late stage this is helpful. Best wishes, Karin
