My grandmother's maiden name is Tselikas. Her father, Panayotis, according to family stories, was from outside Constantinople, in modern day Bulgaria. He owned a successful pastry shop (zacharoplastio) in Drama, Greece his entire married life, until the war, when he relocated the family to Thesssaloniki. From stories, he sounds as if he was a very social, intelligent, progressive, adventurous, worldy, and energetic fellow. I was the only great-grandchild he ever met, and when I was born he hung an American flag from his balcony and told people I would become the first female president of the United States. I know nothing of his family before he married Anna Giatros, the daughter of a Greek doctor who worked for the sultanate (?? this is also through family stories). He has one surviving son (the other killed during WWII), my great-uncle Lambros, who is a retired veterinarian in Paris. I live in New York City, and have no desire to become president.
