Hi to All directly or indirectly related,

I am finding the posted information very interesting. My father was borned in the town called Meizhou South East of China. His ancestors dates back some 5+ generations (circa) from the same village.

I was borned in Hong Kong so hence the spelling of my surname. To think I was related to the Xie4 clan was awesome! This will inspire me to look up my history. However, I would like to hear from your new findings so keep me posted please.

I happen to start tracing my family tree in China and got stuck with the last 155 generations between my father and the very earliest TSE original ancestor, the Emperor YIM. Here is my findings so far:
YIM was the Emperor of Herbs in ancient China who tasted different types of herbs to verify their essence and effects. One of his sons was given the name YAM (along with some land and people of course). YAM had several sons and TSE was one of them. TSE stayed in midland China for some time until Emperor WONG (or HUANG) defeated Emperor YIM and his people. Yet the TSE family survived for another 63 generations to San Por who lived under a different surname Guern. His sister was married to Emporer Chow Shun and San Por was honoured with some land and people where he proclaimed the land as TSE's kingdom. The people there then reclaimed their surname TSE to flourish. There were many famous poets and high ranking officers in ancient China.
The findings/story continue and I can tell you more if interested as there are lots of missing links in between.
Others may argue that TSE was originated from Emperor WONG (HUANG) because WONG was more influential. Who knows !

Wow! What an honor to be part of the Xie4 Clan! What emperor is this Xie? I studied Chinese history, but didn't come across an Emperor Xie. But then, my class did not study as far back as 2,675 years. Was he Han Chinese or a Manchu?

My uncle did genealogy, but he only went back 32 generations, and it went back to Inner Mongolia.

All I know from my current research is that Tse is one of the Houses of the Xie4 Clan.

Xie4 Clan is about 2,675 years old and has the following Houses:

Xie
Xie Xie
Hsieh4 (Wade-Giles)
Dea (Cantonese)
Dear (Cantonese)
Der (Cantonese)
Deer (Cantonese)
Che
She
Tse
Tze
Se
Sese

And belongs to the 3rd Group of the biggest Chinese Clans. Rank #1 of the 3rd Group according to a 1977 Statistics. And that's China only, not counting the whole world.

I still have to confirm one info that Xie came from an Emperor line who actually has the surname "Xie" written in Xie4 which means "Thank You".

Check out the Heroine "Xie" who fought for the rights of women in China. I don't know much info about this one yet as well.

I'm not entirely sure but from my research, Dea, Dear, Der, and Deer is Cantonese and not Anglicized, so if you have those surnames, your House belong to the Xie4 Clan.

Also, you are relatives of these Houses: Hsieh4 (Wade-Giles), Che, She, Tse, Tze, Xie Xie, Xie, Se, and Sese.

Ah I see. Thanks for the info. Hmm... that's interesting. I'm trying to find out where in China my Great Great Great Grand Father came from, his name is written in Chinese as Xie4 landed here in the Philippines 5 generations ago (I'm a 5th generation from him) and it became "Sese".

And when I try to trace "Sese" I always end up as my starting point in Taiwan, they might be a different branch or something.

Hmm yah more probably a different branch. I was told that my lineage is from a Chinese Trader that landed on Pampanga 5 generations ago (not counting my generation) and has the surname written in Chinese "Xie" (Xie4) that became "Sese".

Now that you mention it, that's true, Sese do sound like Spanish. Hmm... during those times Chinese that lands here in the Philippines have to change their name so as it will not sound Chinese, I forgot this part of our history, I'll go research for it again, thanks.

Yes, I remember that my grandfather told me that we came from Guangdong. I want to confirm this myself though.

I'll look for that book. Good idea, a good place to start.

It well could be a "different branch", though it may simply be the spelling that was chosen because it appears more Spanish than the other spellings of the name ("Sese" sounds more like the "hsieh" sound in Spanish than it would in English, anyway.) How have you traced the surname "Sese"?

Someone I know who is Chinese and whose family is also from the Philippines is from Guangdong, which is where most early overseas Chinese immigrants are from. Have you read about the history of Chinese immigration to the Philippines? I'm not familiar with any texts in particular, but there are books about the Chinese in the Philppines in the 19th century... seems like it would be a good place to start to see whether your ancestors follow the general immigrant "pattern".

They are all Cantonese surnames, but these are their English spellings (which is what I meant by Anglicized, perhaps I chose the incorrect usage of the word...) The spelling of the surname was arbitrarily chosen by immigration officials when they entered this country, because the "hsieh" sound (which is "thank" in Cantonese) is so foreign to the English speaking ear. Thus, my grandfather has the spelling "Dea", and his siblings have "Tse" and "Der" because they each came to the United States at different times.

Tse is a surname in my family. Since it's not my surname, I haven't gotten around to doing much research about it, but I can tell you that it's also spelled Dea and Der, strangely enough - another one of those Anglicized spellings at immigration.

My wife is half a Der or Tse ot Xie. I haven't done any indepth research into it yet. But I do know during the Chou (Zhou) Dynasty there was a country or principality by that name. So the surname goes back a long long way.

During the Jing Dynasty the Xie and Wang clan members held all the important positions in the royal court. It was during this time a Xie general won one of the famous battles in Chinese history. It was a decisive victory for the Han against the invading nordic tribes.
