In response to Cindy's query about Mary Tschakert:
Mary Tracy Tschakert was born in Onalaska, Wisconsin in Jun 1871. She was the daughter of Lawrence Jacob Tschakert (2 Jul 1834 - 10 Oct 1901) and Theresia Klimple (9 Jan 1841 - 27 Mar 1907). Lawrence and Theresia were both born in Bohemia and died in Codington Co., SD. They are buried in the Esterly (Saint Maurice – Blessed Sacrament) Catholic Cemetery, Codington County, SD.
Mary Tschakert married William Mortimer French, Jr. on 18 Feb. 1889 in Watertown, Codington Co. SD. They had 13 or 14 children: Sylvanus Mortimer (3 June 1890 - ?), Nellie Susan (10 Jan 1892 - 25 Jan 1910), William L. (29 Apr 1893 - 8 Jan 1921), Agnes (17 Nov 1894 - 24 Jan 1895), Rosa Lena (14 Dec 1895 - 25 Feb 1910), Ruth Leola (5 Nov 1897 - 11 Dec 1983), Chancey (12 May 1899 - Jun 1981), Harry Arthur (8 May 1900 - 7 Jan 1989), Pearl (4 July 1903 - 5 Dec 1998), Ralph (21 Aug 1905 - 18 Nov 1983), Annie (10 March 1907 - 20 Apr 1908), Violet A (3 Jan 1909 - ?), Wallace A (20 Apr 1911 - abt. 1935). (Harry's wife told me that there was another daughter who died soon after birth and had no name.)All of the children except Wallace were born in Codington Co., SD. (Wallace was born near Kent, Wilkin Co., MN.)
Mary (Tschakert) and William French moved often, looking for relief from William's allergies. They lived in Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana, and finally ended up in Maricopa County, Arizona, where William found relief from his allergies.
William died on 10 Apr 1935; Mary died 1 Apr 1959. They are buried at Glendale Memorial Park Cemetery, Glendale, Maricopa Co, AZ.
Although Harry did say that he was of Irish descent, I have found no evidence to support this.
