Trzebaitowski - Krzebaitowski

My grand mother maiden name was always listed as Krzebaitowski or Krzebetkowski. These are not true spellings of Polish or Kashubian names.

I believe the true spelling to be Trzebaitowski and other reseachers with any help on this or these spellings.

hi,
to me the spelling trzebiatowski seems ok.
My parents canged once ago in the early 60 their surname to lietz
but I don't know the background to that.

They came from a small town in germany near Hamburg.

The name per se sounds polish. As far as I know there where many Farmworkers in the 19th cwntury from poland in Ger.

My mothers maiden name was Trzebiatoski. It is the correct Polish spelling. The Trzebiatoski's were the people that planted new trees after they were cut down. Or so I am told.

Hi,
this could probably be of some help for you.
Friedrich the Great got colonists into Pommern (around the area of Szeczin) There is a small place called Maßowitz which was founded in 1751. 16 farmers were allowed to settle there. One of them is an Albrecht Trzcebiatkowsky. That could be the real spelling of the name. The farmers might have been Kaschubs.

The German name is Schmude (Polish Zmuda or similar). The family lived in the area of Bütow / Pommerania, now Bytow. There is a little village Trzebiatkow (1929-45: Radensfelde) near Groß Tuchen (now Tuchomie, western of Bytow) and Zmuda Trzebiatowski means a line of the Schmude-family who owned some land in Trzebiatkow.
The late Herbert von Schmude wrote several articles about the Schmude-family, perhaps you can find someone of the family in the internet to get more information.
There are more families which have "Trzebiatowski" as second part of their name, for example Jutrzenka Trzebiatowski.
Pronounce like che (like in check) - bee - artofskee.

I see your last name as being Kiedrowski and was wondering if your family has ties to Portage County Wisconsin. My great grandmother was a Kiedrowski and born there. She had an uncle that married Valeria Trzbiatrowski (Laura) his name was Peter F. Kiedrowski. I was wondering if you have any information on her family or herself, or how I can find information on her....different speeling ect.
Thank you,
Michelle
