Nicholas & Ellen Truax in Pennsylvania, Ohio and/or West Virginia
I'm looking for information on my great great great grandparents Nicholas (1818-1897) & Ellen (1823-1898) Truax. I cannot find anything concrete regarding their parents or any siblings. The information I have found for them is very conflicting: Son Joseph Sylvester Truax's death certificate says dad Nicholas was born in Germany, however censuses from 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 all say Nicholas was born in Pennsylvania around 1818 give or take a few years.
A family tree found on a different genealogy website says that my Nicholas Truax was the son of Richard Truax (son of Jacob Truax and Rachel Trueax) who was born February 25, 1791, and died April 18, 1818. However, I am unable to verify that Richard is Nicholas's father anywhere on ancestry.com or any other genealogy websites.
Per the 1850 census, Ellen was born in Maryland, the 1860 census says Pennsylvania, and the 1870 census says Virginia. Son Robert E. Truax's death certificate says mother Ellen's maiden name is McLance. Son William F. Truax's death certificate says Ellen's maiden name was Erhart. The family tree found on another website says Ellen's maiden name was Hepner.
After an exhaustive search, I've reached a dead end. If you have any information that can help shed a light on my Nicholas & Ellen Truax, I would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance for your help, Julie Truax Ballard Louisville, Kentucky

Re: Nicholas & Ellen Truax
hello my name is Dawn Six. Nicholas Truax and Ellen Erhart are my 4 times great grandparents on my mother's family side. My mother was Nancy Mcculley, her mother was Sarah June Yost Mcculley, Her mother was Nellie Ellen Truax, whose father was Wm. F. Truax , whose parents were Nicholas and Ellen. I too am at a dead-end with Nicholas and Ellen. I cannot find any information past 1880 census. In 1860 they were listed in the US Census in Bellaire ohio with their 7 children. In the 1880 Census it shows Nicholas in the 1880 Census for Mead, county , Ohio but doesn't give details on the rest of his family. Wishing we could find out more about Ellen and the rest of the family. Please feel free to contact me at any time. DS

Re: Nicholas & Ellen Truax
Hello, I'm sorry I can't help you. But I was hopeing you could help me. Are you related to the truax's from new jersey, I have a levi and laura truax. Levi truax raised my grandfather Bernard Johnson in the 1920-1930 census. levi had alot of kids and one was named harry truax, harry's son told the family that bernard was really blood related but it was some kind of secret and even today we have no answers and it has almost been 100yrs. I would really love to know anything abt his parents on his birth cert. it states mary johnson and joseph johnson, but we believe the names are fake just was made up at the time, I know this sounds crazy but it seems to be true. If you can help me that would be wonderful, if not It's ok. Thanks for everything. Stacy

Re: Nicholas & Ellen Truax
Hi Stacy, Sorry, but I'm not related to them. The only Truax relatives left in my family are my immediate family members. We're all from Columbus, Ohio and Louisville, Kentucky. If I happen to come across any information that might be useful for you while researching my tree, I'll be sure to let you know. Julie
