Surnames: TROBEE, SATER, ANDERSON
Hi,

I recently acquired the pension papers for my great-great-grandfather, John J. SATER, and they list John Henry TROBEE as SATER's nephew. John Henry TROBEE was born around 1864 in Iowa, according to the 1880 Des Moines County census. At the time, TROBEE was living with John J. SATER's brother (presumably also TROBEE's uncle), Michael J. (m. Sintha Ann) SATER, in Burlington. The census records TROBEE's father and mother as being born in Ohio.

In late 1883, the records show TROBEE was living with John J. SATER and his family in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa.

TROBEE's address is also listed as Burlington in a letter dated 30 April 1896.

Another TROBEE is mentioned in the pension papers. John J. SATER and his wife, Alpha (maiden name ANDERSON), were married in the Ramson TROBEE house in Burlington on 5 February 1867. Perhaps this is John Henry TROBEE's father? Maybe Ramson married a sister of John and Michael SATER's?

Please let me know if you have any more information about these families.

Thanks!

Since my last post, I found a lead that John Henry TROBEE was born May 27, 1865, in Des Moines, to George Washington TROBEE, Sr., (born 1818 in Ohio) and Sarah SATER, who was born in Ohio. I don't know how credible this information is, but the SATER name is consistent with the pension papers that say John Henry TROBEE is John SATER's nephew. The info also suggests that George Washington TROBEE, Sr.'s parents are Martin and Sophia SECORD TROBEE.

I guess I still don't know where Ransom TROBEE fits in.

Let me know if you have any help for me. Thanks!
