Relative newcomer to the board and was interested as to whether any members had traced their ancestry to the Trobe family from Guyzance Mill in Northumberland.

My dad, William Trobe, has managed to trace my direct male family line back to a Henry Trobe (aka Trolop) who was born in Newstead, Bamburgh circa 1680. A fairly impressive nine generations back!

Until the surname Trobe was adopted generally from the 19th century onwards, the name was recorded, within generations and even by individuals as Trobe, Trolop, Trollop(e). This was possibly due to the phonetic interpretation of the north Northumbrian "burr".

He's passed to me a ring folder jam packed with information on the Trobes which I'd be only too delighted to share with anyone who shares an interest.

Hi Andrew,

I am also descended from the Guyzance Mill Trobes. I am descended from John Trobe (born 1769) the eldest son of John and Eleanor Trobe. My Trobes ended up in Seaham and 3 of them joined the Australian gold rush!!

Would love to get some detail on the family particularly the earlier generations as I have struggled to link them all together.
