Don't know if this is relevant and if you are still pursuing this line, but I am researching my wife's family tree (Fitzpatrick) in Northumberland. Her grandfather's brother (Joseph) married a Trobe sometime in the early 1900's. Not many people around to ask now, but it seems her name was Edith or Ginny (Jinny?) - which I know was a form of Sarah. They had a son William (we think around 1929), who went on to become a doctor, practising in Wallsend. Family rumour is that the Trobe family owned a large part of Ashington, particularly the Regal Cinema and the bus station. Am having great difficulty in finding any of these people in the official records. Hope this is of some use to you - does any of this relate to your search? Regards, Tom

Hi Tom, Thank you. I am not sure whether your ancestor and mine are connected as I know so little about mine. I am still trying to find her birth record. Jen

The spelling of Trobe varied in Northumberland depending on where they were baptised and the family were sometimes called Trollop (this happened to my Trobes). There was a Susanna Trollop baptised in Felton, Northumberland about 1819 (on IGI). My Trobes came from Guyzance Northumberlnd and were baptised at either Shilbottle or Warkworth.

Hope this helps.

Hi
I have only just joined Ancestry and you'll be amused to hear that my name is Susan and my maiden name is Trobe!!! A bit too young to be your ancestor - not often I can say "too young", these days.
Anyway I am descended from the Guyzance Trobes - I have old research to hand , plus there is now a very informative tree now on Ancestry.co.uk. I thought I would have to start from scratch, but with the ancestry tree, plus information from a cousin in Australia, who I discovered using Google, I'm now in the position to go through and see if there are any new sources to verify some of the discrepancies between the two pieces of info.
I would like keep in touch with anyone with Trobes in their family tree. I'm facinated with the interchangeable use of Trollop and Trobe in the 1700s and I also feel that somewhere there must be a link with the more well known La Trobes.
Hope to hear from some of you.
Sue

Hi Sue,
Was great to read your message on ancestry. My husband's Great-Grandmother was Susan Trobe and from my research would also have been from the Guyzance clan. We were lucky enough to spend time this time last year in Northumberland, exploring the places where Peter's ancestors had lived and worked. His Grandfather was John Ewart, but he changed his name to Hewitt after arriving in Australia. His sister, Susan, also emigrated in the 1880s.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer

Great to hear from you would love to chat with more details. Have only just begun researching my Dad's side of the family as have concentrated on my Mum's family up until now.

From what you say I think you too must be in Australia, a coincidence because in the first week researching I discovered my Dad's cousin's son, living in Canberra. I remembered them as a child, but then they seemed to lose touch with my Dad. He and his siblings and his cousins are the only really close relatives I have on that side, so it was great to find him and he has sent me photos and quite a lot of information. He had been to Guyzance too, with his Dad in the '90s. He's an architect and fancied renovating the mill!

There is a huge amount of information on Susanne Wilkinson's tree on Ancestry - Craven/Wilkinson Family Tree. I have been in touch with her too. The Trobes are her husband's family and we meet at my 3 x Great Grandfather.

I've been trying to work out from her tree exactly where your Susan and John Ewart fit, I think it is a line she hasn't followed down yet.

It would be good to share more info. my e-mail address is david.clemson@nordnet.fr would be good to communicate that way.

Speak again soon

Sue

I posted some time ago and was just talking to my daughter about my grandfather I have a photo and thought about your post.
My grandfather lived in Jacksonville Florida, but was born I believe in Georgia in 1890's multiple dates. he dided in 1961 at the ripe old age of 95. His daughters name was Anna Helen Trobe, however she was known as Helen Anna Trobe then married into the Richardson family. When I attempt to trace John I am led also to Cumberland, Whales so forth. I had his mothers name who is a mystery and his sisters names but ink leaked on the paper poof gone. Thanks for the info on Trollop(yikes). I see Trobe spelled Traub or Traube here in California.
