My Moses Treadaway was b. 1812, d. 1891, Swain Co. NC. He had brothers, Thomas, 1814, Daniel 111, 1818, George W. 1824, Jackson, 1832, Wade Hampton (Hamp), 1834, Martin V., 1836, and William B. who is very well documented.
Of these we know that Wade H., George, and Martin, went to AL.
Jackson was here in NC in 1860, but in 1870 his wife was here alone with their children, so he might have died in CW, or left them.
Moses also had 3 sons by his 1st wife who went to AL.They were Francis M., Henry, and Stephen.
I descend from his 2nd wife, Polly Stegall. (Moses md. his 1st cousin).
When I first started my research, I was told by the older Treadaways that Moses had lived in AL for a time after the CW, but came back to W NC to live in 1869. They named a place called Sand Mountain, AL.
Any help on these is greatly appreciated.

during much of my research on my GW Treadaway I kept coming across another GW who was older. On the 1870 census for Russell County there is a George Treadaway born in 1824 married to a Jane. No children are in this family. It states he was born in Ga but that could be a census error. Some other Treadaways from NC migrated to the area around this time. The older GW that I had come across also had fought in the Civil War. I found both in various Rosters that I had looked at. Sand Hill is in Genesee County and when I did a search on the census I came up with nothing. I will continue to look and next time in the Georgia Room I will jot down the information on the other GW because I bet this is the man you are looking for.

The only Treadaway's living in the Sand Mountain area in Dekalb Co, Al after the CW that I know of are James Monroe Treadaway and his mother Ary Treadaway and his descendants.
Sand Mountain covers a big area. Some towns are Geraldine, Fyffe, Rainsville, Sylvania, Ider, Albertville Henegar, Crossville, Dawson. He was born in Cherokee Co, GA in 1851 and Ary Treadaway born 1823 SC & moved to Dekalb Co Al, sometime after the birth of James Monroe from Cherokee Co, Ga where they lived the rest of their lives. His family does not know where or with whom Ary lived when she first came to Dekalb Co Al. Could there possibly be a connection to Moses Treadaway who lived in Sand Mountain, AL after the CW?

I'm curious about your Treadaway line in Dale County. My Grand Aunt Elizabeth Louise Garner married a Henry C. Treadaway prior to migrating to Oklahoma right before the Land Rush. Would also be interested in any connection this line has to John Lane.
