Treacy from Alliston Ontario
I am related to the 1900 Treacy family from Alliston Ontario. I'm not sure how yet but would like to find out. Sister Francis Marie(Ruby) was my mom's cousin.

I can't find any reference to a Nolan in my Treacy family from Simcoe County, Ontario. Do you have any additional info that might help pinpoint a relationship? Berneice

Hi, I am not sure of the connection. Sister Francis Marie was my mom's cousin ,whether it was a first or second cousin,I couldn't tell you. Sister Francis Marie was born around the turn of the century and she was from Alliston Ontario. The other main family names other than Nolan were Delane, Feron, Toomey, or the McMahon(or McCann) family. I can't seem to find the thread that joins the families. I remember visiting Sister Francis Marie at the convent at Morrow Park in Toronto with my mom. Mom was born in 1913,daughter of Kate Feron, grandaughter to Patrick Feron and Margaret Nolan of Adjala Township. Their parents were Daniel Nolan and Margaret(or Mary )Toomey and Francis feron and Ellen McMahon(or McCann).Ann Feron married Martin Delane of Acchill. Do any of these names help?

Sorry -- those names do not show up in any of my research. Wish I could help you, since it seems that Alliston was a very small town in the 1800's. My branch of the Treacy family left Ontario about 1880, but there were several other branches and remained in there. Berneice

Found some more info. Sister Francis Marie was the daughter of John Tracey and Ellen Gibbon. They had 3 other chidren, none of whom married.John was the son of Richard Tracey and Ellen Healey who were married in January 1840. The name Treacy shows up in the family as Tracey and Treacy. This couple also had a son named Richard who married Alice Ryan. They in turn had 12 children.

I am sure our families must be related, but still can find nothing that absolutely ties them in. On a plat map of Tecumseth (bordered on the West by Adjala)settlers in Tecumseth before 1837 included Patrick Treacy whose farm was located on Concession 1, Lot 16 (N 1/2), William Treacy whose farm was located on Concession 2, Lot 16, and Richard Treacy whose farm was located on Concession, Lot 16 and on Concession 1, Lot 18. I feel these three Treacys were all related because the farms all adjoin one another. By 1881 some of those early land holdings were still in possession of the Treacy family: The south half of Concession 2, Lot 16 was owned by Thomas Treacy, the North half of Concession 1, Lot 16 was owned by Patrick Treacy as was Concession 1, Lot 21. (From Historical Atlass of Simcoe County, Ontario, 1881, page 84). In April 1869: "Bridget Tracey (note spelling), wife of Richard Treacy Tecumseth died 18 Apr 1869 and was buried 20 Apr in St James Cemetery; aged 85 years old." 04 1869: "Richard Treacy of Tecumseth, one of the first catholic settlers in that twp died full of years after receiving the sacraments of the church 04 December and was buried in St James Cemetery; aged 96 years." (he is believed to be Thomas' father) "Bridget Maher, mother of Mrs. Thomas Treacy of Tecumseth, died 22 Jun 1870 and was buried at St. Margaret's Cemetery on 24 Jun 1870; aged 88 years." These entries are all from the St James Catholic Church Parish Register. There were many other entries in the Parish Register that mention the Treacy name and they are all probably related in some way or other. I only copied down the ones above because I was sure they were mine. Thomas Treacy and Anne Maher had 10 children and I have nothing on any of them except my Richard. Thomas' father, Richard, had two children that are known to me, but expect there were others. The two that I know about are Thomas (above) and patrick who m Elizabeth Cahoon.Patrick and Elizabeth had 7 children named in the 1861 Canada census: Richard (22), Bridget (20), George(15), John (13), Mary Jane (11), Eliza Ann (9) and William (7). I found all this at the LDS libray in Salt Lake a couple of years ago when I was there. There were quite a few records from Simcoe. I wish I could be of more help. Berneice

Hi Berneice, A while back I was sent some info on the Treacy family when I mentioned to a correspondentthat Sister Francis Marie was a cousin. This report starts out with Richard Tracey,Treacy, born 1733 in Ireland, married to Bridget?,born 1783in County Tipperary. Both died in Adjala Township and are buried at St. James Catholic Church Cemetery, Colgan, Simcoe County.According to what I have they had 4 children:Richard(1840),Thomas(1819),Mary( who married Cornelius Burke) and James Tracey who married Catherine Treacey.
Generation 2 shows Richard Tracey marrying Ellen Healey in 1840,and Thomas Tracey marrying Ann Meagher(Mahar) on June 10 1839 at Gore Mission,Peel County, Ontario. Ann was the daughter of Daniel Maher and unknown. Richard and Ellen are showing as having 2 children:Richard(1845) and John(of Alliston). Thomas and Ann are seen to have 4 children: Catherine(1843-1932), Richard(born 1845 in Tecumseth, died 1913 in Ardoch,Walsh Co. North Dakota USA),Ann(1849-1941,buried in Alliston)and Mary Treacy.
Generation 3 has Richard(son of Richard and Ellen) from list of children above marrying Alice Ryan, and having 12 children:William,Lawrence, Carmel, michael, Thomas, Emmett, Richard,Vincent, Josephine, Gertrude, Cecelia, and Sarah. Son John(of Richard and Ellen)from 2nd generation had 4 children and that is where Sister Francis Marie(Ruby) comes in . John married Ellen Gibbon. They had 4 children, none of whom married so it seems. The chidren were Hugh, Basil, Viola, and Ruby. Also further info is here on children of Thomas and Ann. Daughter Catherine married William King. She was born in 1843 and died in 1932. They had 6 children:James, Jane, Mary, Thomas, William, and John. Son Richard, born 1845, died 1913, married Isabelle Dennis, daughter of John Dennis and Mary McCabe. They had 6 children Margaret, Mary, John, Nora, Isabella, and Thomas.
The person who helped me with this is from the McCabe Family. Their website is "McCabeClan" Unfortunately this still doesn't help me find out where the relationship between the Treacy family and the Feron,Nolan,Delane family lies. The mystery seems to be buried in the St. James Catholic Church cemetery. Patrick Feron and Margaret Nolan are there along with Ann Feron and Martin Delane. I cannot find where the Nolans are buried but there seems to be some movement from around Alliston to Detroit and Toronto area. I suppose I'll have to go back to the Ontario archives. Well I had better close off for a while and get something done around here before the day has gone by. Talk later, Jane

Thanks so much for all the info you sent. I think you have helped me much more than I will be able to help you. I have seen the McCabe website and submitted the info on my Richard to them, but did not have all the other. You mention an Alice Ryan. Another ancestor, Thomas O'Connell (sometimes written as Connell)married a Mary Ryan, whom I believe to be the daughter of William and Catherine (Unknown) Ryan. I have no proof. William and Catherine were listed in the 1871 Adjala census as being age 85 and 65 respectively, but with no children living with them. The first mention I have found of thomas and Mary (Ryan) O'Connell was in the Parish Records of St James Catholic Church when their daughter, Mary Ann, (first born?) was baptized. The sponsors were William and Catherine Ryan. The next Register entry for this family was 19 Jul 1857: "Baptized John, born the 1st instant, son of Thomas Connell and Mary Ryan. Sponsors were Francis Ryan and Honora Connor. I also found an entry for a baptism for Mary, daughter of Michael Ryan and Margaret Connell. I don't know if any of these are related, but all were living in Adjala, Simcoe at the time. I do know that Thomas O'Connell was born in Tipperary, Ireland about 1831 and Thomas migrated to Canada c 1850 (potato famine?) Thomas and Mary (Ryan) O'Connell had 12 children: Margaret, b 1853; Catherine, b 1854; Mary Anne, b 1855 m John Dennis c 1883; Ellen, b 1861; William, b 20 Dec 1864 m Margaret Ellen Treacy (daughter of Richard and Isabella (Dennis) Treacy 29 Jan 1894; Thomas b 1865 m Mary Connor 23 Jul 1889 in Alliston, Simcoe at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church (I have a copy of their marriage license); James b 08 May 1866; Patrick, b 1870 m Tressa Unknown; Daniel b 1871; Michael b 1876; Agnes b 1880.
