Nancy,

My name is Trudy Steinhauer and my maiden name was Kaufman. We may be cousins if your father was Jackie (John) Funfare and your mother Della Mae Funfare. I see you posted this in 2011 and although I've just recently gotten into Ancestry.com I've discovered a lot about my own family as well as that of my husband. My mother was Gertrude Kaufman and my father Percy Kaufman. I hope you get this message ~ who knows? Trudy

I have traced them back to Francis 1760 from Ramsden Bellhouse but can't fined anything before that.
Appear to have some connection to traylen funfare via Thomas Traylen 1840.
regards Jean.

Not connected with the Great War but you asked where the name originated. During my research the earliest I have found is in a will of Nicholas Trayland of Finchingield in Essex, (Cooper)dated 25th January 1627. In the parish records his proven offspring were recorded variously as Trayloe, Trayling, Trayland. The priest wrote down what he thought he heard! etc. Regards. Dorrie
Dear Katie :

What a nice surprise to hear from you !! I have heard of
Charles Traylen - some years ago someone in England
told me of an antique book store in Guildford owned by
a Traylen.

Frank Traylen was my grandfather - he owned a business
on Kings Rd., Chelsea. Is there a connection between
Frank and Charles Traylen ?

I do have my side of the family tree right back to a
Samuel Traylen in 1696 if it is of interest to you. During
the 1990's I did alot of work on it. I wouldn't say it was
complete and I am always happy to find out more. I can
send it by snailmail if you let me have your address.

I am at : 45948 Lake Drive, Chilliwack, British Columbia,
Canada V2R 3T3

All the best - Jean

Not sure if the surname of her husband isn't RUGGLES not UGGLES.

I would guess that she was born in between 1725 and 1732.
Hi,

I have just been reading your message inregards your Grandfather Frank. I am related to the Traylens and have information regards our branch which includes the Traylen Fair which is still working, I seem to come from Francis Traylen b 1760 m Mary Plow.

Anyway, I noticed you said that your Grandfather owned a shop in Chelsea. I have been trying to find out about this shop and its relation to our branch of the tree. The reason being that my mum picked up a print book from a car boot sale of a local london paper from 1921 which has adverts for a Frank Traylens shop in Kings Road , Chelsea.

I was wondering if you have any info on the business and your grandfathers parents so I can see if and where we all fit in.

Thank you

He had three sons, Christopher, Patrick and Roger (only surviving).
Roger and Patrick had issue.
Roger is as you know Jan Thomson's father (Hi if you are reading this).
Patrick is my father, and settled in New Zealand.
I understand that a Hazel Traylen is currently researching our family tree.
I would certainly be interested in knowing more as I have seen my mother's family tree back to the 16th century but know nothing of my father's line.

I have Trayling ancestors in Canada as early as 1857. They hail from England (possibly Kent). Earliest known is William Joseph who had sons Joseph, Alphonse, John, Arthur and Fredrick. The next generations have a number of Alberts, but no Alfreds. Keep in touch if any connections.
Leslie, Victoria BC Canada

Hello Jean
(I have e-mailed you separately with more details than this)
My father was Frank Whitwell Traylen, son of Alfred Frank and Gloria Louise Traylen. Alfred Traylen was son of Frank Whitwell Traylen (I guess) as he was the brother of Norman Algernon Traylen and two sisters. This means that you might be my (previously unknown) Aunt, which I find rather exciting. Please reply to my e-mail or reply to this - I will check both at least once a day.
Regards
Neil
(Neil Anthony Traylen)

I have been researching the name Traylen for about 20 years. My immediate family originate from Stamford in Lincolnshire by way of Sibson in Northamptonshire. During my researches I have found several Traylens in Essex and Cambridgeshire and Suffolk and I, too, have noticed that the spelling can vary.

My mother's maiden name was Elizabeth Kilby Traylen, my grandfather was Charles Leonard Traylen, and his father was John Charles Traylen (architect, of Stamford). JCT's father was William Lynch Traylen, a farmer from Sibson, and HIS father was John Traylen of Old Weston and also Great Catford, Huntingdonshire.

I believe that there is a connection with Newport in Essex (Christopher Traylen) but I haven't made any real progress with finding out where my family lived prior to the early nineteenth century.
