Surnames: Tracewell, Trachsel, Skinner, Bonnifield, Schreiber
The Tracewell family prominent in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky is traced to Edward Tracewell Sr. who married 1) Charity Skinner and 2) Dorcas Bonnifield. He was born Ederias Trachsel, the eldest child of Hans (John) Peter Trachsel and his second wife Catherina Maria Schreiber of Tom's Creek, Maryland, near Graceham. Several of the Trachsels anglicized their surname to Tracewell, including a cousin of Edward's, George Frederick Tracewell whose family settled in Paris, Kentucky. When researching either family, one should always consider the change in the surname.

Do you happen to have any researched into Ohio? Looking for a Fannie Malinda Tracewell who married William Speary.

Thanks!

Surnames: Maxwell, Tracewell, Schmidt, Speary, Bonnifield
I found a Fannie Maxwell, aged two, in 1880 census for Elk, Vinton County, Ohio, the daughter of John and Annie Tracewell. I also found a marriage for a Fannie Tracewell to Conrad Schmidt in Vinton County on 12 March 1878, but nothing that connects with William Speary. Have you tried to locate a copy of the book THE BONNIFIELD FAMILY by Maxwell. He lists the descendants of Edward and Dorcas (Bonnifield) Tracewell and you might find your Fannie Malinda Tracewell in it. Hope this helps.
