Questions: 1. Could William (b. 1906) be the father of William, Jr. (age 3 in 1930)? 2. Could either William (b. 1926) be the son of Rosa E. Rolland Trace?
Any assistance sorting out, confirming/denying any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.

Re: William TRACE family - Norfolk, VA
Can you go any farther back?
Is the family German in origin?
I'm gone most of this month but I may have some info.
I've never heard of the VA Traces, but I have data back to in the 1600 to 1800 range of Traces in PA.

Re: William TRACE family - Norfolk, VA
I looked up some further back records. Maybe this will help:
1900 cen: Norfolk, VA TRACE, George T. - age 43, Oct 1856, VA-ENG-VA, Painter Margaret A. - age 43, Jul 1856, NC-NC-NC William T. - age 17, Mar 1883, VA John - age 12, Jan 1888, VA Albert - age 8, Sep 1891, VA
Norfolk [VA] City Directories: 1888 - TRACE, George T., 25 Charles - laborer 1889 - TRACE, George T., 7 Mozart Ave.
1870 cen: Eastville, Northampton Co., VA TRACE, Leana - age 43, VA TRACE, George - age 13, VA lived in home of William McKnown
Could not find them in the 1880 census.
In 1900, George states his father was born in England. However, in 1910 he says his father was born in VA.
I have more details, and some death dates for TRACES in the Norfolk, VA area (from SSDI and cemetery interment cards) if you are interested. I'm in the process of finding their obits to see if I can make a connection to the ROLLAND family.

Re: William TRACE family - Norfolk, VA (Conrad Trace)
I am researching the Traces in Pa. I was trying to find a country of origin, but have hit a dead end with Conrad Trace, who died in Berks or Montgomery County, PA. His son was Nathan Trace born 1813, died 1894 in Berks County. His son, William B. Trace (1844-1935) would be my great-great grandfather. If you have any info to share about Conrad Trace or beyond that would be wonderful!

Re: Re: William TRACE family - Norfolk, VA (Conrad Trace)
I don't think the Trace in Norfolk are connected with the Trace in PA. Try this link: "On September 27 1746 Conrad Dress arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Ann Galley. " http://www.ristenbatt.com/genealogy/shplst28.htmThe name "TRACE" has variations, "DRESS", TRACE", "TRICE"

Re: Re: William TRACE family - Norfolk, VA (Conrad Trace)
Which Conrad TRACE are you referring to? What township in Berks County was your Conrad from? Just for informational purposes, there were two Conrad TRACES' in Berks County. Click my nickname if you want to take this to emailing directly!

Re: Re: William TRACE family - Norfolk, VA (Conrad Trace)
The Conrad Trace I am referring to was the father of Nathan Trace who lived on a farm in Berks County for 40 years. He is buried in Chester county. Nathan and Mary (Baker) were the parents of William Trace, my great-great grandfather. He lived in Monocacy, Amity Township.
I saw an 1820 Census record that listed Conrad Trace as living in New Hanover Township, Montgomery County. That was where my research stopped.
I was trying to find the first Trace in my family line not born in the U.S. I thought he might be my link to this.
Of course, I am not sure that all my information is correct. I was not aware of two Conrad Traces' in Berks County.

Re: Re: William TRACE family - Norfolk, VA (Conrad Trace)
In the 1820 census of New Hanover Twp., Montgomery Co., Pa. there are four "TRACES' " Michael and Peter(page 138), Abraham(page 137) and Conrad(page 135).
Michael TRACE is believed to be the son of a Conrad Dres(of German decent and when pronounced it could sound like Drace or Trace, depending on what region of Germany he was from).
The two Conrad TRACES' I mentioned earlier, one mentioned above was in records from September 27, 1746 to 1790 mostly in Longswap Twp., Berks Co., Pa. he is in records as DRES, DRESS, And TRESS.
The second one I don't have at my immediate disposal but, I have him.
As for your Conrad TRACE he could be the son of Michael or the son of another TRACE. I'd like to point out that the above Conrad(Longswamp Twp.)had five boys and one girl. Only one of the sons died the same year as the above Conrad. And majority of his decendants went to Crawford Co., Pa. in 1803/4. I also would like to mention this line of TRACES' started as DRES/DRESS to TRES/TRESS to TRACE by 1790! The only reason I have this info on this line in a pedigree is, my line has alot of the same first names(ie: John, George, Jacob, etc.).
Sincerely, Doug TRACE

Re: Re: William TRACE family - Norfolk, VA (Conrad Trace)
In hindsight, I forgot I have a census record for a Nathan TRACE in 1880 Census. This Nathan is in Reading, Berks Co., Pa. Something I would like to point out is his Father lives with him and is a Ruebin TRACE! If this is your Nathan and/or a decendant. I would like to suggest we take this to email or start a new topic!
