Hi Kay,
I made it up to Dad's to look for the family bible. Found it! I actually found two of them. Unfortunately, they are both written in, I assume , Norwegian. Rick was able to figure out the dates of births and such. The really curios thing is that almost all the kid's middle initials were O.K., even the girls. Ther were also two Gertruds, the first died at less than a year old. There were also a few pictures. There was mention of Troy Idaho, Troy Montana, LaCrosse Washington, The Dakotas, Hilsen was alson writen down but don't know if that was a place in Minnisota or someones name. let me know if any of this is helpful. I haven't heard anything from Olav for a while. My dad was sure excited when I showed him who I had been talking to. I think he thought we were al but extinct too. Well, better go.

How EXCITING!!! We MUST get someone to help us translate it! I know the family lived in Troy Idaho, did NOT know they lived in Troy Montana!! This gives me more clues, as I have seen Kittilsens in Troy Montana, but figured they were not related, now I will look farther. Hilsen, I do not know what this means, but will follow up on it. I am sure there are many little details in those bibles that will help pull the pieces together. It sounds like one of the bibles must have been Ole K and Bertha's bible. This is so exciting. I am sorry to be so slow to reply, this message board doesn't tell me when there is a new reply, and I guess I have been pretty swamped here at the farm lately. If I were just a little more caught up financially here on the farm, I would make a quick trip to Wn between mares foaling. I have a little break until the end of April. And photos too!! You lucky dog you! I am dying to see the things you found! I have a few sources that can do some translating for us. We have a relative in Wyoming (her grandfather was Bertha's brother), and she can translate quite a little. So can Olav. I have ordered some info from the History center, hope I can run in and see what it says. I may have to reorder it. THanks so much, visit with you soon! Kay Also did not know that the kids had middle names! Did know that one of the Gertrudes is buried on the farm in Minnesota.

Hi Olav, Thanks for the information, I guess this system didn't let me know that you had written a response. I haven't checked in to very many things since my dad's passing. Kind of took the wind out of my sails. Anyway thanks again, Write when you get time, I so enjoy hearing from you.

Don't mean to interfere with your conversations, but I am searching HILSEN also. It was my ancestors last name and they were from Germany. They changed their name from Huelsen to Hilsen when they came over to the US in the mid 1800's. Some of them relocated to the west (Oregon). If you have learned anymore about Hilsen please let me know! Thank you.
