Tozier's and Indians

Pembroke is said to have been full blooded Indian. Which one of his parents were Indian and was it Cree Indian? My Grandfather, Edward Tozier, told me he was half Indian and he had the nose to prove it. My Uncle George told me that they didn't accept half breed marriages back in those days, 1850, so not many marriages were actually recorded. I have the feeling that my Grandfather's grandfather was Indian or that one of his grandmothers was. My Grandfather was born in WI., but his family came from Canada. He was a logger and so was his father William who married Sarah Stevens. I have hit a brick wall when it comes to my G Grandfather William and Sarah Stevens. Also, Edward Tozier, born 1826. If anybody has any info on Tozier's who married Indian's, please contact me by e-mail.

I have been looking for info on Elias Tozer who married Jane Dickson and had a daughter Emma Tozer on 4/1/1858 born in Seaville NJ. (Cape May County) I found the indian story interesting because I was told all info on the Tozer's had been destroyed because of a marriage to an indian (he was always called the Red Man)I was told Granny (Emma, my G-G-grandmother looked pure indian and that I look like her)
If anyone has any info please e-mail me at Keysnet@aol.com Thanks!!

Dear Georgia,
I don't think these two conns. link but I'll tell you what I know . My father was Clinton Ray Tozier born 1925 and died 1997. His father was Clarence Jefferson Tozier born 1887 and died 1968. My Great Grandfather was Wesley Louis Tozier from Nova Scotia ,I don't know birth and death dates.
Wesley's wife was Edna Tibbetts who had a Cree mother and a French trapper father. I live in Lincoln,Maine Area ,thier are Tozier/Tozers here who came from The Miramich N.B. Area but, I've never made a blood conn. with them.
A man in Lincoln named Donald Lyons has a book I've read about the desendants of Jared Tozer circa 1700s whose family came from England to Connecticut and then to New Brunswick and came this area after. Mr. Lyons once said thier was Cree in that branch .
I know that some of that family went to WIS. and I saw the name Tozier in the phone book when I was in Stevens Point in 1990. I have found alot of info about the Tozier name but can't tie it to my clan.

Tozier/Tozer...back to Bill

Bill: My family ended up in Wisconsin around 1880 in Lincoln county. My grandfather was a lumberjack as was his father. There was a Clarence Tozier, the son of my grandfathers brother Jeff. But this whole Tozier/Tozer does get confussing and I think the two spellings has a lot to do with that. My grandfather Edward was born with the spelling as Tozer, but he changed it after he got married. Then some of his sons also changed it back to Tozer, so I do get lost in it all.
By the way Bill, we are a group of Tozier/Tozer genealogist who have a website we all communicate through and give updates as to our information on the clan. We are all over this country and Canada and the UK. If you are seeking good friends and distant family members, maybe you might want to concider joining us. It won't cost you one dime either. Jo Branch and Austin tozier are sort of the inspiration and leaders of the group. We join in sharing information on the findings of Tozier/Tozer information is all.
If you are interested just let me know by e-mail at: duckie@ctaz.com. Thanks for the quick come-back

Wisconsin Canadian Toziers

If I remember correctly, one of Jared Tozier's (Jared of Miramichi) sons moved to the Gaspé penninsula. Either he or one of his sons then moved to Wisconsin. Jared's father did not come from England, as stated in William Bruce Toziers note. Rather, he was descended from a son of Richard Tozier who came from Devon England and was first known to be in America when he married Judith Smith in Boston in 1656. Richard received a Maine landgrant in 1659, and was killed by Indians in 1674, during King Philip's War. One of Richard's sons moved to Connecticut after his father's death, and that son was Jared's great-great grandfather. Jared and his father, Charles, both fought in Connecicut regiments during the Revolutionary War, and their war pension applications are on file. Jared married Sarah Eunice Ives, daughter of Captain David Ives, and moved (along with the Ives family) to Miramichi, New Brunswick after the war to start a lumber trade. One of Jared's sons moved to the Gaspé, where he also was in the lumber trade. Either he or one of his sons then moved to Wisconsin, and was also in the lumber trade.

I am a descendant of Jared Tozier. Can you tell me more about the book on Jared? I'd like to obtain a copy if at all possible.
