Birth:Â 4 Apr 1764, Lyme, New London, CT
Death:Â 22 Nov 1850, Southesk, Northumberland, New Brunswick
In 1779, at age 15, Jared enlisted in Zebulon Butler's Connecticut regiment of the revolutionary army.
In 1784, Jared married Sarah Eunice Ives, b. Apr 4, 1764, daughter of Capt, David Ives. In 1789, Jared moved to the Miramichi region of New Brunswick.Capt. Ives fought in the famed "Green Mountain Boys" and was part of the famed seige of Fort Ticonderoga, along with one or more Toziers. However, when ordered to burn his farm and crops ahead of the advance of Burgoyne's British force, Ives failed to burn the farm and subsequently was forced to sell the crops to the British army. As a result, Ives farm and property was confiscated after the war by the new American government, and he was forced into exile in British Canada. Jared Tozier may have followed the Ives family to New Brunswick. Jared returned to Connecticut at age 71 to claim his Revolutionary War pension.
As a note of historical irony, one of Capt. David Ives descendants, David Ives Tozier, either a son or grandson of our ancestor, Jared Tozier, served in the Maine cavalry and was mortally wounded at the battle of Five Forks, VA, during the Civil War. \\
