Does anyone have any information on Jane Toyne born around 1860 in Lincoln. In 1881 she was a live in maid for the rector of St Peter's Lincoln. She married not long after, on her marriage certificate there is no father. I have been unable to find Jane on any of the earlier censuses. I would be grateful for any help.

Hi Barbara, thank you for the reply. Did your Jane marry James Henry Kealey? Their children were Ernest, Florence, Marie, Harry and Ethel. I have not positively identified Jane's parents just the most likely. I would be very interested in knowing your thoughts on the family. regards Sue

Yes we do have the sameJane Toyne and daughter Ethel was my husband's mother.
I don't know Jane's father's name or what happened to her in childhood due to workhouse records loss. However with professional help Ihave discovered that Jane's mother Ann married William Ferriby at St. Paul's Church,Lincoln on 16 July 1868.The 1871 Census shows Jane living atBroxholme
as Jane Ferriby(although both Jane and her mother are shown as younger than they actually were real life). Jane clearly used Toyne.
My husband is intrigued by your interest in his grandmother. He wonders whether you both have something in common.

I have a letter from Ethel written to my late mother in law Mollie Kealey, whom I'm sure your husband would remember. Mum in law had written, knowing my interest in family history to ask if she knew anything about Jane. Perhaps we should continue this thread off list before we bore the rest of the list.If you go back to where you found the connection I have altered the setting so you can contact me directly. Sue

Sorry for gate crashing your exchange - you've filled in a surname for me! I was a Kealey and James Henry is on my family tree although not quite a direct ancestor - I didn't know Jane's maiden name.

Do you know anything about James or his ancestors? Maybe we could exchange info if you're interested.

Hi, very happy to hear from you,I don't know a lot about the Kealey's. James Henry was my mother in law's grandfather. His father was Robert Kealey who was married to Louisa Gadd. Their children were James Henry, Joseph, Robert Wilkinson, George Thompson Gadd, Louisa and Betsy. Robert was the son of Joseph Kealey and Elizabeth Pepperdine. There other children were Joseph, Fanny, Elizabeth, Spencer, Henry, Martha, James and Emma. Where do you fit in?

Hi,

Henry was my g g grandfather so I know quite a bit about his branch. I've just started looking sideways coz I can't get back any further at the mo. I've got Florence, Harry and Ernest on my tree - do you have any more info on marriages or deaths for them?

Are you interested in any more details of the Kealey branch? You seem to have loads already!

thanks for the prompt reply,
Ilona
