Colleen,

In your original note you mention Dennis Toynbee who married Mary Martin. You should know that his name was actually John Dennis Toynbee. He was my great-great-grandfather. They were originally from Burry in England but moved to Scotland when my grandfather (also John Dennis Toynbee) was around 2. John Dennis Toynbee married Jessie Forester Gillon in Scotland. They had three children - Margaret Monteith Gillon Russell (nee Toynbee), John Dennis Toynbee and Rosemary Crookston (nee Toynbee).

The William Toynbee, in Edinburgh, that you mention is my mothers Uncle Willie and was married to Rebecca.

Hi Denise,

Thanks for replying about your own Toynbee connection.

I'm a little confused about your William Toynbee. The William that I have in my tree was the son of John Toynbee and Alice Murphy. He was born 1876 (died 1950) in Midlothian Scotland and was married to Margaret Spence Rae. I believe this is the William who was an executor to the estate of Hephzibah (Dennis) Murphy Lill.

What was your mother's name?

Thanks,

Colleen
