The Toynbees of Lincolnshire

Classification: Query
I spent a few days at Lincoln Archives last week transcribing Toynbee Wills. As a result I have amended the parentage of Thomas Toynbee who DID NOT marry Mary Burgess - and the reason why

This is from father Johns Will
In his bequest to son Thomas is the explanation of why he did not marry Mary Burgess - the mother of his children. Three eight acre plots were left to Thomas....

"To have and to hold upon the special condition that he do not intermarry with Mary Burgess daughter of John Burgess of Coleby aforesaid, labourer"

If Thomas were to marry Mary the land would be forfeit to son John who would then pay Thomas a £5 per annum annuity.

And a final display of venom - to son Thomas £60 within one month of marriage if he marries anyone else other than Mary Burgess.

Happy to send a copy of my full Toynbee Report if you email jac1144@hotmail.com or see my Rootsweb database via http://www.linclinks.co.uk
