I am doing a bit of family research and i am at a early stage. The name James toye has come up a few time's.
I have heard of the french connection before and when they came to Ireland the Toyes settled in county Armagh and county Donegal. My ancestors are from Derry and Donegal.
I have been researching my grandfather Patrick toye who married frances crossan in Derry in 1921, he was born in 1872 in Raphoe county Donegal one of seven children to John and Hannah toye also from Raphoe.
One of Patricks brothers was named james who married Martha James had four children and one died age 14 , .another brother of patrick was named Edward, So their were Patrick ,James, Edward i think another brother was john there are also a death record of infant triplets born to john toye my great grand father. As i said i am at a early stage and will update later , i have found Donegal ancestry at Ramelton very helpful.

"one of the 7 children to John and Hannah toye also from Raphoe. One of Patricks brothers was named james": looking for a James Toye from Ireland who came over and married my grandmother in NY in 1910, and if so it would be his 2nd marriage according to your info if this was he. It was also Her second marriage as spouses died young back then. I have next to nothing about him except he appears in the 1910 census with her and her children (one of which was my father) and was mis-transcribed as James Joye, due to cursive handwriting being difficult to read. Will try to attach a copy.
