I'm looking for additional information about that particular John Tow also. His wife was Mary McCARTY Crowder and he was her second husband. My grandmother was a direct descendant of John and Mary. You can learn a little more about him in the book The Crowders in Moultrie County, Illinois by Roy E. Crowder. The LDS have a microfilmed copy of this book.

Frieda, JohnTow/Mary McCarty had 3 boys (William, Nicholas, and James) and 3 girls (Julia, Nancy, and Unknown). Do you know what happened to son James? Do you know what the name of the third daughter was? And can you put these 6 children in birth order?

James married Nancy Pickett on 28 Nov 1833 in Ripley Co., Ind. They had at least one son, James T., but I haven't really tracked that branch yet, so I'm not sure what happened to James. The third daughter was Elizabeth. She married William Yater on 2 Jan 1840 in Jennings Co., Ind. I can't put the children in birth order. Based on their marriage dates, it would be James, Nancy, Elizabeth, William, Nicholas with Julia unknown. The women would have married younger than the men, though, so I'm still looking for better dates of birth. Right now, Nicholas is the only birth date I feel certain about. I also believe they had a 7th child - a son who died young.

I don't have any information about Julia - do you have any you could provide to me? I'm reasonably certain of William Yater, based on the marriage record, the Census data and his Civil War records. After Elizabeth died, he later married Isabella (Surname unknown). After William died in 1863, Isabella married a Russell Bell and they lived in Howard County, Indiana. Which of the John Tow children are you following?

Frieda, After Elizabeth Tow Yater died, William Yater married Isabella Waggoner. After William Yater died, Isabella married Burrell Bell. They are in the 1870 census with the children from both previous marriages. Do you have Nicholas Tow as born 11 July 1826 and married to Catharine Young?

My grandmother's maiden name was Tow.( Mamie Tow Sheetz) She married Edmond Sheetz, my grandfather. They lived in the "shoals area"
I think around Limestone Co. I only remember seeing her a few times in my life.
