Wonder if our Tow/Towe lines might be connected. We have only traced back to my g.g.g. grandfather, William Tow who was in Buncombe County, NC. Not sure if he died there or if he moved on into Union County, GA where his son John lived.
My lineage is William Tow (b. abt. 1820). He was married first to Rebecca Lance and second to Perniece W. Seabolt. I am pasting 4 generations worth of info. below on this line. William served in the North Carolina state militia, Buncombe County, and helped with the removal of the Cherokees. Cunningham's Co. of the 3rd NC Militia in the Cherokee Wars.
I am descended through Williams & Rebecca's son, John N. Towe & his wife Elizabeth Holloway. Next, John N. & Elizabeth's son Columbus McDaniel Towe and Laura Louella Harkins. Columbus & Laura Louella's daughter, Mary Pearl Towe 1Mathews and her second husband, Homer O. Pope.

He married NANCY HANNAH EVERETT December 10, 1869 in Union County, Georgia, daughter of THOMAS EVERETT and MARTHA JACK. She was born 1842, and died Unknown.
Notes for JAMES WASHINGTON TOWE:
James was born in Bumcombe County, North Carolina but moved to Union County, Georgia. He even drafted into the Confederate States Army at age 17 and served in Northern Virginia with the 23rd Georgia Infantry Regiment (which surrendered in Greensboro, NC). He contracted dysentery (a common illness) and probably mallaria; he was plagued by asthma, which began while in the service, for the rest of his life.
He was at home on sick leave at the end of the Civil War. He was from a county that was of stron Union sympathy, that had little in common with the slave-owning parts of the state. James applies for an indigent pension (Gordon County, GA) in his old age based on his Confederate service. In the area of the application where all property should be listed is a notation, "nothing but an old cow - poor as Job's turkey." James himself, stated in the application, "I have nothin of relty or other property. Have never owned more than a cow and perhaps a hog at a time. I own nothing."
James W. Tow is listed in the Muster Roll for the 23rd REGIMENT OF THE GEORGIA INFANTRY VOLUNTEERS, Army of Tennessee, Company B

*The correct spelling for "Buncome" is Buncombe.

Written by Clifford Towe, Jr.:
"I suspect Jim and Hannah still had pro-Union sentiments because of the names they gave my grandpa -- William Sherman Towe -- just think about that! That name was a dirty word in most of Georgia. Sherman was the guy who burned Atlanta and cut a path 60 miles wide and 300 miles long."
