My husband is a Tovrea from Kansas. The family migrated to KS from Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. The first Tovrea that we know of to come from Iowa to KS was William T. Tovrea in 1864 and homesteaded in NE Sherman Co. We recently went to the cemetary in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and found the graves of Frank G. Tovrea (1867-1954) and wife Caroline L. (1855-1954); Ellis L. Tovrea (1897-1965) and wife I. Lee Nora C. (1914-1993).

The lore in my husband's family is that the family migrated from France to Canada and then to Iowa and on to Kansas but have no proof of this.

Margie, I just found your posting. The father
of William Temple Tovrea was William F Tovrea
born 1826 in IL. I also descend from William F
through his son Charles Thomas Tovrea. My family
also has the legend of coming from France into
Canada, but our family has been in the US longer
than first thought. You can view our family outline
tree at my home page:

I am Murlyn Jean Tovrea. Born to Dorothy Mildred Graybeal and Vernon Merle Tovrea on 3/9/42. Vernon Merle Tovrea's mother was Mae Tovrea-Price. She lived in Mesa CO. My uncle's name was Leland and he was married to Gladys. They resided in Nucla, Mesa, Grand Junction areas of Colorado.

My father was killed in a mining accident in Uravan, Co approximately 1942.

Any info on ancestry greatly appreciated.

Hello!!!!! You do not know how long I have looked for you! I do not believe we have ever met, but Grandma always kept your photo on top of her piano. Grandma passed away in 1992. My father (your dad's brother) Leland Tovrea passed away in 1998, but he did meet your son a couple of years before that when he came to Colorado with his grandmother to visit. I have a lot of information to give you on your father & mother, and you can contact me at my home email address. I also have a home page that list all of our Tovrea genealogy. Please do contact me, as I know some of your Graybeal cousins would live to know how you are doing as well.

Margie,
William Tovrea is my line. He was born July 18 1826 in McLean Co. IL and died in Mount Pleasant IA on Feb 15 1880. His parents where Thomas Tovrea and Mary McGhee. I believe William was married to Amanda Hancock. The Frank and Caroline Tovrea you talk about seeing there graves is William's son. Contact me at aeryan1972@home.com
Thanks Amy

Judith, You descend from Arthur T Tovrea and Rose Hood>Bartley Tovrea and Mathilda Low>John Tovrea and Mary> Thomas Tovrea & Dorcas of Anderson Co., TN. We believe that this Thomas Tovrea/Tovery is the same Thomas Tovery that is found on the Rev War Roster from PA-no proof yet however. I have more information if you would like. I also have some information on Rose Hood's family. You can find some photos and family trees at http://www.genealogy.com/users/t/o/v/Gladys-L-Tovreabrandsto...
