"Mr. Louis Touart died at 1:45 yesterday afternoon at his home on Spring Hill Avenue." Born in Mobile, he had been a graduate of Spring Hill College, and had served as a sergeant major in the Mobile Cadets, seeing action at Shiloh. He returned to Mobile and the cotton business, and was elected to the Cotton Exchange in 1876. He was a Roman Catholic. "He was one of the early members of the Cowbellians, the mystic organization out of which sprang the Mardi Gras pageants of Mobile and New Orleans, and was also an honorary member of the Mobile Cadets. ... He was identified with many movements in the cause of charity and was a most liberal contributor to orphan asylums, the infirmaries and educational institutions."
