William Torbert/Tolbert of early Bucks Co., PA, who was born in 1727/28 likely had a son named Samuel as William Tobert's father was Samuel Torbert.
I think possibly that this Samuel the son of William Tolbert was the Samuel in the 1790 Bucks Co., PA, Census, next to the Landis family, which was known to have lived in California, Richland Township, Bucks Co., PA.
Next to Richland Township is Haycock Township, which was the early home of the Silas McCarty and Isaac Walton families.
The McCarty and Walton families intermarried and moved to Muncy Creek, PA.
I note the following for Richland Township: A page of a memorandum book carried by Pvt. Benjamin Walker (1757-1821) during his service in the 3rd PA Regiment, Bucks Co. militia lists these people: Ebenezer WALKER; William BARON; Aron VAN BUSKIRK; Amos CHILCOTT; Samuel TOLBERT; Jacob REDENBAH; Benjamin WALKER; Isac WALTON; Ezekiel WALTON; Elles LUES; Mark OVERHOLT; Frederick DEEL; Barnet SWARTS; John LOYD; Benjamin CROW. Also mentioned: Capt. EDWARDS, Lt. WOODSIDE(S), and Col. CADWALEDER.
So, in 1790 there was a Samuel Tolbert who lived in or near Richland, PA, which is next to Haycock, PA.
This Samuel Tolbert served in 1775-77 during the Revolutionary War with Isaac Walton.
In the 1800 Muncy Creek, Lycoming Co., PA, a Samuel Tolbert is listed very close or within the cluster of descendants of the Silas McCarty and Isaac Walton families.
Also, in this cluster of families is John Burrows who married a Torbert a descendant of Samuel Torbert the progenitor of the Bucks Co., PA, Torbert/Tolbert family
The Samuel Tolbert of Richland, PA, seems to have been a grandson of the above Samuel and a son of William Tolbert.
Samuel Tolbert of Muncy Creek, PA, apparently had a son named William Tolbert who married Susanna Dunkelberger.
The household of Samuel Tolbert of 1790 Bucks Co., PA, [Richland presumed], fits the known children of Samuel Tolbert of Muncy Creek who also seems to be apparently the progenitor of the Steuben Co., NY,Tolbert families.
My interest in the Tolbert family is that my ancestor John Talbert Chambers who was born in PA about 1767 seems to have been the son of John Chambers and a Ms.Tolbert born about 1744 who could just barely be a daughter of William Tolbert and elder sister to Samuel Tolbert of Muncy Creek, PA.
I note also that the McCarty family is mentioned in Northampton Co., PA, which was where my Chambers family my have originated or across the Delaware River in Walpack, NJ.
The Chambers and Putman families to which I belong worked in the logging trade at least during the winter.
