Oh how interesting, I look forward to hearing from you further. I have some of the names, but definitely not all the other information on the family. Thank you so much for your help.

Lee,

I made one minor error. The marriage record had the surname spelled Thorbeck. Here is the transition of the surname: Torbeck from Thorbeck from Thor Beek from Bäkemann from Bökemann. Thor Beek in Low German meant 'to Beek' or 'from Beek', 'Beek' being a farm, village or town. Bäkemann also likely meant 'a man from Bäke' (Note: this name probably does not have origins to the occupation of a baker. That surname is Beck, Becker, Beckermann or variations.) I have not found a place named Beek near Diepholz, but Falk Liebezeit likely knows.

Lee,

I didn't get a reply to my private message, so I'll publish the translated Torbeck tree from Diepholz.

Diepholzer Buergerbuch 1788-1851 (Diepholz town record book) by Emil Johannes Gutzeit and Herbert Major, published 1979

12 Oct 1823 Gerhard Rudolph Thorbeck, tailor, son of local tailor Christian Friedrich Thorbeck and his wife Anne Marie born Jungohr paid a town citizenship fee for his wife Anne Sophie Keithahn (baptized Koithahn) from Heede (village just north of Diepholz.) She was daughter of farmer Johann Heinrich Koithahn, born Bruening, and his wife Anne Adelheid Koithahn. (It wasn’t uncommon for the husband to take the wife’s surname if he moved onto the wife’s family’s farm.) (Gerhard Rudolph and Anne Sophie married in Diepholz 12 Sept 1823)

(Please contact Falk Liebezeit in Diepholz for more possible info on Koithahn and Bruening families in Heede and Jungoehrs family in Daverden/Langwedel)

Thank you for posting the information to the board, I have never received a private message from you and have no idea why. My e-mail address is: leeripp@iland.net and it should have come thru, but who knows what happened. Anyway I am reviewing what you have posted and will study it in detail. Thank you so much for posting it since you had not heard from me. I have had several e-mails not make it thru, but others come thru just fine. Just hitches in technology I guess.

Do you have any information by chance on my great grandmother, Sophia Laars who married Wilhelm Heinrich Torbeck (may be Heinrich Wilhelm, not sure). I would like to find where they were married. All I know on her is that she came from Mecklenburg, but don't know if that means the town or the province.

Thanks so much for all the help and information you are posting, it is greatly appreciated.
