I always heard stories about how our last name was changed. Looks like it's true. I'm looking for information on Frazier Torain/Torian born in or around Hopkinsville, KY around 1880 or so....

In My Family it is believed to have derrived from a slave name we have traced our herritage back to a man named Ephiram Torain my grand father who was born around 1864 I believe my grandmother Ms.Nannie Hall. We're not sure he was a slave but we do know that there were many children that was born to them and one of which is my father Elisha Torain I am the last of eleven boys and one girl of which 5 survive now and i'm reaching out to all of those who bear this name to see if i could find what is a common bond in this name. Most of the people that we have come to meet find us all to be related in many respects the same locations of origin. most of our family are rooted from va. or n.c. so keep in touch and share your history if you can

Hello,
I have been researching my husband's family whose surname is Torain. They are from the Graham, NC area. His grandfather mentioned a change in the surname and I found a link to this changed surname spelled "Torian" in the 1870 NC census. That Torian was Anderson Torian and was my husband's great, great grandfather. Please e-mail me at azuremom@hotmail.com, as it appears there may be some family connections. Also, here is a link to the census website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/person/census/1870/

I just have a hint of information as I am also trying to get my children's genealogical line in order. I was married to Ernest Torain, Jr who's father was Ernest Torain, Sr who's father was Jiles Torain who had many children and was one of 22 children I understand in North Carolina. North Carolina seems to be the common denominator of all Torain's I have heard of or met thruout life. I will keep in touch; there was a huge Torain Family Reunion in Atlanta in 2002 that we missed. Please email me anytime. Thanx! Jennifee
