I'm searching for any information on the Topel family from, I think, Prussia. Elizabeth Topel(1879-1931) was my grandmother and the daughter of Albert Topel and Maria Von Barr. Elizabeth married Robert John Povlitz(1873-1928). Elizabeth and Robert had three children, Clarence, Ruth, and Edward. They all lived in or near Detroit, Michigan. Edward was my father.

I happened to be looking on the internet for Elizabeth Toppel when I saw your message. My father said she was an Aunt of his and was a highly recognized fashion designer in Berlin, Germany. My father's family does come from Prussia. His name is Werner Kurt Behrendt and he was born in 1913 in Berlin. I do not know if there is any connection, but would like to find a site that highlights that fashion era in Berlin. Maybe there will be more info there.

Hello,
I am trying to find some family members from the Detroit area also. Do you perhaps know a Joseph (approx age 65 or older) or Helmut (Approx in 50's) Topel? Helmut also went by the nickname "The Baron". Maybe they are related to your Topels in Michigan?
Thank You,
Lea Downey (Topel)

I am married to John Frederick Povlitz, who's father is Donald Povlitz. I have been trying to research the exact heritage of the family name "Povlitz" and having no luck. I will ask my in-laws if they are aware of relatives named "Topel" and let you know! I do know that there are actually 2 Povlitz families in the Detroit area...my in-laws, in Grosse Pte. Woods and another Povlitz family in Grossse Pointe Farms (I believe). However, neither are supposedly related. Strange, huh? I will let you know if I come up with any new info!!!!

Well, I am a Topel and my family line is from Prussia (North Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, etc...)
May or may not be related, but here is a brief tree...
Mysterious Topel & Mrs. Mysterious Topel had Augusta Topel and Albert Topel (Possibly more kids)
Albert Topel married Caroline Skibbe They had kids: Robert Topel Hulda Topel Polter Gusdavis H Topel Albert H Topel August F Topel Estella Topel
I don't know a lot about these people, other than Gusdavis' line (which I am from).
I know it's been a while but maybe posting will bring this back to life :) and we can find out more about the Topel line!

Your name may be a variation of the village "Publatz" Publatz, Prebendorf, Pommern.(Pommerania). Pommerania was split between Germany and Poland, the village is now in Poland. My (thousands it seems) of Topel ancestors hailed originally from this village and settled first in Minnesota and Michegan. April Topel Quick

I found information about several of the children listed, all tracing back to Albert Topel and Caroline Skibbe. I have some questions and am hoping that you might be able to help. My husband is a descendant of Albert H. Topel (whom I believe to be son of Albert and Caroline). You can e-mail me at topelracing@yahoo.comThank you!
