Toohills Around The World

I just returned from a Toohill Reunion in the Midwest and was wondering if Toohills in other parts of the world are beer guzzling, Beatles singing Cub fans. Seems like we only get together when the Chicago Cubs play and end up getting thrown out of some tavern because the owner can only handle two hours of Beatles music (I think my Uncle Tom sounds like Ringo Starr).

My Grandfather Toohill told me the Toohills left Ireland when the English Navy tried to "recruit them" and the ship going to New York could only handle so many of them, so the rest went to Australia.

Ben and Sean - which branch of the Toohills are you from? My grandfather was Daniel who died too young following WWI and left behind a wife and 5 daughters.

I'm from the Ipswich Toohills which as far as I can tell starts with a Daniel Toohill in Ireland who had a son called Daniel (b abt 1808 d. 1877) . I believe through research that he came to Oz as a convict his record shows he was tried in Limmerick but was held at Cork before being transported. When he was sentenced he was a widower with 1 male and 1 female child, I believe that the male child at least came to Australia also at some point and his name was Edward. From here the details start to become slightly clearer. Edward married Mary and had 9 children, Catherine, John(deceased infant), Daniel (possibly your great grandfather), Edward, John, Mary Ann, Cecilia, Margaret & James Patrick(my great grandfather). I believe Daniel had a son also called Daniel and I think that this Daniel is your Grandfather but I can't be sure because no one knows much about Daniels line (or most of the others for that matter), James Patrick had 6 children, Leo Edwaed, Mary Agnus, Alice Cecily, Kathleen Edith, James Robert (my grandfather) and Thomas Frances. James R had 7 kids Patrick Joseph (my Father), Alice May, Kathleen Frances, John James, Elizabeth Mary, Robert Lawrence and Terrence Michael. And thats my line in a nut shell.

As Daniel lived in Queensland its almost certain hes related, I know almost nothing of the other lines but suspect some of the other sons may have also had children called Daniel, but the one I mentioned above is the one that best fits the time frames.

Now about your side, no one here knows anything about Daniel and in fact didn't even know he existed, to be honest my family only knew of James Patrick, John and Edward and that there may have been other kids. Consequently I would love to know eveything you can tell me about your line as it is a complete mystery to me and I can add Daniel and his lines story to the family tree. Also my line has suffered a number of fires over the years with the most recent being my parents house about 10 years ago, as a result photos and records of our ancestors are now non existant here, so if you by chance have any, I would love to be able to get copies if possible.

Anyway hope to hear from you soon

Cheers and Happy New Year
Sean

Hi - quick reply on NYE. Will get back to you pronto in the new year. I'll check the tree we have put together so far and see where we have connections - the names are familiar but then they are common for the time and the lineage. As far as I can tell all the Toohills/Twohills are related somewhere along the line. Commonly including publicans, police officers, and horse breakers (and SP bookmakers). We are from County Clare. Our Daniel and married Mary Isobel Johnston (Scottish lass and a Protestant)and had 5 daughters - all raised High Church of England. I am the eldest of the grandchildren.
Have a safe and happy new year, talk to you soon.

Danelle (yes, that's right I was supposed to be a Daniel)

hi Danelle,

Just a quick note that I've looked closer at the Daniel in my tree and although I have nothing concrete to support it yet, but it would seem that your Daniels and mine are the same ones. In which case our great grandfathers were brothers, if this is the case it might interest you to know that our great great grandfather was tried for murder but was subsequent found guilty of the lesser charge of 'common assult' and sentenced to 2 years jail. His father we a fairly confident, through the few records we have found, was a convict found guilty of stealing sheep. And yet they ended up have plenty of police in the family???????

My direct email is kingblur@hotmail.com and just out of coincidence I have a brother Daniel.
Anyway talk to you soon
