Re: Toohill Family/Trish in New York
Janie, My Great Grandfather came to NY in 1866 at the age of 23. He was in the Civil War, I have papers about his service and a Census page from 1870. His name was Edward Toohill. He and his wife Anna had 6 children. Two died early in life, 4 survived to adulthood. It is quite possible that Edward had relatives who came here around the same time. One day I'll get to Cork and try to find out more. Regards, Trish

Re: Toohill Family/Trish in New York
I don't know how to use this board and am posting this message all over it in hopes that you or Janie with whom you correspond can answer my questions. My Uncle was Richard M. Toohill born in Brooklyn c1895. He married my aunt Elva Meyers in 1924. I have a carton of their life together in photos and newspaper clippings which I am sorting through. There are references to Richard's brother, William of NYC, and a sister, Lillian, of Ship Bottom, NJ. Also many references to a Marge or Margaret who may be another sister. They had no children. I am seeking more information as to Richard's parents and siblings. Richard Toohill was a hotel manager/owner in NYC and Bermuda and their life was fascinating with many famous people passing through it.

Re: Toohill Family/Trish in New York
Chris, My branch of the family stopped producing that generation offspring in 1888. Of that generation only one had children, my uncle in 1913 and my father William, in 1915. My aunt Ella said that there were other Toohills in the NY area that were cousins, but I never met any of them, sorry that is where my knowledge ends. Trish

Re: Toohill Family/Trish in New York
Trish, Thank you so much for your reply. Obviously, your father is not the William who was the brother of and best man in my uncle's wedding in 1924. However, the two postings by Janie to you on Sept 18, 2001, is the very same family as mine. I probably have photos of the people she refers to and I do have information on Mrs. Frank O'Rourke as well as this fascinating history of the brother, Richard and so much more to share. She has not answered the posting I wrote _ I am going to try again-It is very frustrating not to know how to contact her. As you had some dialogue with her, I thought you may have heard from her more recently??? If you can help me reach her, I would appreciate it. Thank you. Chris

Re: Toohill Family/Trish in New York
Hi, I have come to a dead-end regarding a Bridget Toohil (Toohill) who married Thomas Beary. They were married in Ireland (late 1700's) but came to the US (poss around 1800) and settled in the New York area, possibly Westchester. They had 5 children: Bridget, Edward, James, Mary and Michael.
