I have extensive information on one of the Toncar families in Czech Republic, beginning approximately 1770. If anyone else is researching this surname, I would be glad to share what I have found.

My particular line originated in the Vodnany, CZ area and in 1900 relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. I know that there are other Toncars living in Iowa, but to date I have not connected the two families. If anyone is able to assist with this, I would appreciate it.

Would be interested to learn more about your Toncar line. I am looking for the ancestors of Emanuel TONCAR, * abt. 1910 in Czech Republic.

Wolfgang,

By 1910, my direct line of Toncars had already emigrated from Bohemia and were living in the U.S. I do have a limited amount of information about a few Toncars who remained in the Netolice area of western Bohemia from 1910-1930.

Before 1900 would likely be the time period where we might find a match. Please give me some information about your Emmanuel's parents (if you have it) and I might be able to assist. I do have contacts with other Toncars that are currently living near Plzen and Ceske Budjovice, so perhaps I could ask them, as well.

I look forward to hearing from you again.

Dear Kelly,

Thank you very much indeed for your kind reply. I have asked the living sources in teh Czech Republic about the ancestors. This is a difficult undertaking as I do not speak Czech and they do not speak any other language than Czech.

Emanuel Toncar was born 11.11.1907 near Plzen in a place called (ignore the spelling) Ducna or Dlucna. He died in 1938 in Germany. He married before 1933 Julia Pelzowa from Levin.
His parents were Frantic (spelling?) Toncar and Maria NN. Frantic was born before 1885 and he died about 1954.

Emanuel is the grandfather of my daughter-in-law, Eva Toncar.

A few words about myself: I am a semi-professional genealogist and a retired former computer business executive. You can find out about my ancestors and genealogical databases and software under http://mudter.free.fr.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Wolfgang,

I know that you said you asked every living person in the Czech Republic about ancestors already, but I thought that I would mention it to my "cousin" Vladimir anyway. He lives in a small village outside of Plzen and I seem to remember that when I visited that place there was another small village named Dlucna nearby. I have asked him about your family's Emanuel.

As I am not able to read German and look at your webpage, I would like to ask what part of Germany you are from. I have German ancestors on both my father's and mother's side. My father's side was from Bretzingen, Mosbach, Baden. My mother's side from Berschweiler, Prussia. Just recently, I have traced both of these lines into the 17th century.

I will write to you again when I hear from Vlada.

Kelly,

Thanks again for your help with regard to my TONCAR-search, where I am really at the earliest stage.

It would be a real pleasure if I could help you as well. Let me start by asking where about Berschweiler is. "Prussia" is not a regional term rather than a political term of the 19th century.

Communication might be a bit easier if we exchange information directly thru Email rather than RootsWeb. My email address is mudter@t-online.de.

This is my first time visiting this sight, so excuse me if I'm not real clear. My grandfather, James Toncar, came over from Bohemia in 1903(?) with his parent's Vaclav Toncar & Mary (Placek). They came to Cleveland, OH. Vaclav's parents were Matthew Toncar & Anna Faktor. Mary's parents were Joseph Placek & Katherine Marek. My grandfather, James Toncar, was the oldest and I believe he had four or five siblings. I don't have that info right at hand at posting

Hi, Joyce... I believe that I have your name in my family tree already. Are you Joyce Kubec, daughter of Mary Ann Toncar?

The information which you provided in your Ancestry post matches what is in my tree. James, your grandfather, was not the eldest brother, however. John was. Your grandfather was the second-born to Vaclav and Marie. I went to Bohemia twice in the last five years to do research there. I have been to the exact house in Truskovice where your grandfather was born. I do have pictures, as well, if you're interested.

My grandfather, Frank Toncar, was the 7th child of Vaclav and Marie. He was born in Cleveland.

I'd love to share more information. I have the family tree dating back to the 1700s. It's taken me about 11 years of work, but I love it.

Please e-mail me directly. I'd love to hear from you.

Your 2nd cousin,
Kelly

Hello,

I came across your messages when I was searching for my ancestry history. It says you are looking for Toncar's who live in Iowa and my family and myself are from Des Moines, Iowa. I would love to get in touch with you to discuss in more detail on how I can assist you and if you have any information for me as well.

Look forward to hearing from you.
